Youth Ice Hockey Skates

My son will be turning four next month and I want to start him in a learn-to-play program. Can anyone help me on how to size him for skates?

for kids its tricky since they grow so fast, but the rule is a size to size and a half smaller than shoe size. You want to only be able to fit one finger behind the foot with the toes just touching the front. I know that parents want the most time out of the skates but if you go to big it will hamper them. The best bet starting out would be used skates.

We have recently signed up our 4 year son for beginner ice skating lessons to prepare him for ice hockey in the fall. Last week he used the traditional ice skates, but this week we bought him youth size hockey skates and he used those. What is the best way to train him? Do we start with the tradtional skates until he gets a hang of things and then switch him to the hockey skates, or does it matter? Please give me your opinion.

I am a coach for the younger kids im a figure skater as well. im only 14 but i do know that most of the kids starting out in skating to get to hockey ARE using hockey skates, figure skates have picks [sharp pointy pieces at the top] and hockey skates are curved, when he feels the big difference in that he might not want to move over to the hockey skates because of the fear when he first tryed them cause he wasnt used to them. i am almost certain to put him in hockey skates, but dont go out and buy expensive ones cause he will grow out of them fast. but hockey skates over figure skates if hes interested in hockey..

ok i am 10 years old would my skate size be a youth or a junior?

probs a youth if it dont fit then try junior

im a teen and i wear a size 9 for sneakers (normal shoes). im gonna get ice hockey skates, and im pretty confused about the three categories. when i was younger it was easy because id obviously pick junior. but now? youth? senior? which one is right for me?

any comments are appreciated. thanks a lot!

Youth - Little Tykes (sizes 6y-12.5y)
Junior - Kids (sizes 13.0-5.5)
Senior - Shoe size 6.0 and up

You would want to get a senior skate. Since you wear a size 9.0 shoe you will want a 7.5-8.0 sized skate. Hockey skates fit 1.0-1.5 sizes smaller then your shoe size.

The ice hockey skate is Bauer its on the bottom in a picture but no shoe size???????? or is it the size ??? mens or youth or woman???? I have no idea!

When you say "bottom" of the skate, are you referring to the bottom outsole, where the blade holder attaches? If so, I doubt this DO19 has anything to do with size. Typically, skates have a size tag on the tongue. The other way you can get an idea about the size of a skate is from the size number on the blade holder itself. This probably won't be visible in a photo.

Just curious - is the DO19 written in marker, or does it look like a factory marking?
