I've been playing some street hockey with some friends, and planning on playing a good amount this summer. I have a Easton Octane composite shaft with a replacible wood blade. I've played 2 games thus far and have scraped the fiberglass off the bottom of my blade. I know wood on pavement isn't the greatest Idea, but I hate using those plastic blades.
I was wondering if putting a thin layer of surfboard ding repair (which is either a epoxy or fiberglass resin) along the bottom of the blade after each game would make it last longer?
Granted I could just wear the blade out than replace it, but I hate it when the blade starts to split.
Best answer get the points,
Thanks
I plan on re-applying the epoxy after each use..just looking to make the wood shaft last longer
The epoxy will wear off the same way the woven glass sheet did originally. I guess you can keep applying the epoxy after each use, but you're just momentarily delaying the inevitable with that.
The only answer to asphalt are the ABS blades you hate. Sorry.
Hey guys this is just a video on how to tape the blade of your hockey stick. Sorry it was so long. This may seem kind of weird but, my dominant ...
I am looking for a P91A(Staal) in wood or I would even settle for a gagne, ovechkin, or kovalev. I don't think they make them in wood because of the open toe, but if you could give me a definite answer that they don't or where it I could find it, that'd be sweet
First, they make more blades in wood than you think. It'll depend on the type of shaft you have now and if it's tapered or not.
Hockeygiant has a Nike Bauer Vapor XXXX Senior wood blade, left handed, for the 91A curve, $29.99. Fits a tapered shaft. (www.hockeygiant.com - look under replacement blades - sr blades). http://www.hockeygiant.com/nbhvxxxxwdbld sr.html
A lot of places are out of wooden blade stock since it's end of season for those items. Most places will be getting the 2009 stock in soon, so you should check back in a few weeks, unless you need it now.
My friend who didn't have much money to buy three different sticks, one for practice, one for away games and one for the road, he used an easton wooden stick for practice and away games. Its a pretty good stick.
Price: $19.99
Strap 'em on and away you go.!
One size fits all.
Works on any type of carpet!
It would be nice if manufacturers would sell a wood hockey stick with Sidney Crosby's extremely close to straight blade but all wood and most composite hockey sticks I see have huge curves including the two companies that have provided hockey sticks for Crosby, Reebok and Sherwood. I wonder why Crosby's straight stick pattern is not sold. The retail sticks sold with his name on it from Reebok have a curve which is not what Sidney Crosby uses in real life with either the Pittsburgh Penguins or with Team Canada.
Regardless, I like to play with a nearly straight blade on my hockey stick. What is the best way of removing the curve on a wooden hockey stick blade so that it becomes nearly straight if I do not have a blow torch?
the spezza curve has got to be pretty close to crosbys.
a lot of wooden blades nowadays cannot even be changed with a blowtorch.
if you do have one (aka- a really cheap stick), than any methos of heating it up should work. turn your burner on high and hold the blade an inch above while moving it around so the entire blade heats up instead of just one spot. than put it on a tile floor and stand on it. keep pressure on it untill it cools down. that should work.
i play hockey and i have been using the bauer supreme 35 wood hockey stick for a year now. and the blade right now is really worn down and i need a new stick. but when i go to the sports stores go online or call around now one has this type of stick. anyone know were i can get one? or what to do??
try looking at this site.www.nikebauer.com or try ebay

Hockey Sticks – Composite or Wood ? | Article-Author.com
Composite hockey sticks are generally developed from graphite or carbon fiber. These materials are pretty light, but are also extremely highly-priced. The benefit to a composite stick will be the substantial velocity at which you could get a shot. The far more pace one particular can shoot the puck with, the swifter it’ll go, along with the far more probable you can score. On the other hand, these composite sticks may be countless bucks and given that they may be manufactured from a single piece, a damaged or worn blade would call for you to substitute your whole stick.
The other disadvantage to a composite stick is the fact that most are usually not match for inline hockey. Even though most composite blades are good to the ice, they have a tendency to put on down really rapidly on inline hockey surfaces. As quickly since the graphite shell in the blade wears down, a foam core is uncovered that will break down inside a make a difference of hrs. I’ve gone by way of many composite blades inside a single season of taking part in inline hockey on the cement surface.
