My 3 year old wants to learn how to skate and eventually play hockey, but would it be better to teach her with figure skates first?
Since she is only 3, I would recommend putting her in figure skates first. Figure skates provide a little more stability. The toe pick helps kids get back up when they fall down. It is easier to learn the basics in figure skates and then switch to hockey skates. Definitely have her wear a helmet when she's on the ice.
If you are putting her in a learn to skate class, have her in figure skates for Tot 1 & 2 or Snowplow 1, whichever your rink uses, and switch to hockey skates for Tot 3 & 4 or Snowplow 2 & 3.
Available at icewarehouse.com The Reebok Extendable ice hockey skates are perfect for the little guys out there and learning how to ice skate ...
My little brothers are starting roller hockey soon.
The link below is to a junior roller hockey skate that is adjustable so since their feet are still growing, they would last a bit longer.
However, I don't know if they are in the size range that is available at this site, as they only have skates that adjust from Youth 11.0 up to Kids 1.0.
However, this skate could be offered in another size range, but they don't have any of those.
Otherwise, there are other good options for beginners. That same site offers the ability to filter skates by skater level...so if you need to look at options for beginners, you can simply choose that skill level...the link to that is also below.
I used to watch this anime awhile back which had this kid with a hockey stick with a pair of skates and a cap going around killing off people or something like that. I also remember a couple of episodes with a little pink dog looking doll if that is any help.
I haven't seen it in a long time and was curious what it was called, thanks.
It's a tv show btw.
Yep that's it, thanks mate.
As you can tell I haven't checked out that show in a looong time. lol
Paranoia Agent. Lil' Slugger carried a Baseball bat and nobody got killed, he just whack they asses over the head with the bat. That pink dog was Tsukiko Sagi's imagination but got rich for creating those dogs as stuff toys.
My son is dying to play hockey, but he doesn't know how to skate. He "runs" on the ice instead of skating. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach him to skate? What I am doing is not working and his prehockey class coaches aren't getting through either.
Thanks
There are often learn to skate classes at a rink... but it sounds like it's a personality thing, where he does not realize that he's not doing it right. I would tell him that unless he starts to skate right you won't et him play hockey. if he wants to play badly enough, he'll learn.
Any one out there tried the Easton Stealth S9 Senior Ice Hockey Skates? Could be a long shot but figured I'd try here. I play every week, am 23, and have been playing since I was a kid. Last time I bought skates was about 9 years ago but they are missions and I just broke a blade. Since mission in out of business cannot get new blades to fix what is a awesome pair of skates.
The fit will be a little different going from a Mission skate to an Easton skate. The heel will be similar in width but the toe box is going to be a little wider on the Easton skate. As the S9 has an original price of $199.99 it will be fairly supportive and come with a stainless steel blade which is nice. If you are only skating one day a week this would most likely be sufficient for your needs, if you are skating multiple days a week you may want to jump to the the S12 as it is a stiffer skate and would not only be a little more performance driven but also would last you for a few more years.

SLAM ONLINE | » Jason Richardson: 'I Really Wanted to Play in the NHL'
About his ill-fated childhood dream of playing pro hockey : “His feet just got too big for his hockey skates. ‘I really wanted to play in the NHL,’ Richardson said. ‘At the time, I think were only two or three African-American players. I wanted to be the fourth one.’ Richardson, who turns 30 on Thursday, was exposed to hockey growing up in Saginaw, Mich. His mother bought him skates one Christmas, and he taught himself how to skate at local rinks and on frozen ponds. The pick-up games he played in back then were on ice, with a wooden stick he curved and shaved himself. And it didn’t matter if he was the one who added color to the game. ‘We were the type of kids in my neighborhood who played everything — hockey, golf, basketball, football. We didn’t look at hockey like it was a black or white sport,’ he said. ‘I loved the game. And being from Michigan, we always had frozen water. Some people used to laugh at us, man. It’s uncommon for black kids playing hockey even today. They look at it as a predominately white sport. We didn’t discriminate, as long as the sport was fun.’ The speed and passing of hockey appealed to him as did the, ahem, accidental contact.”
