what type of roller blades are the most similar to ice hockey skates?

i play ice hockey but want to improve my skating off the ice. i want to know what kind of skates to get which are the most similar to ice skating but i also dont have a huge budget.

hmmm I know that you can get some that are real close to ice skates but are pricey. I would suggest in getting ones with thinner wheels and not plastic ones so they mold to your feet like real skates.

Is it okay to use hockey ice skates to learn skating if we can't find figure skates?

My 7 yr old is learning to ice skate just so he can use it recreationally. I am having a hard time finding figure skates for him. Is it okay to learn on hockey skates? We don't plan on playing hockey. I've heard that once you use hockey skates it's hard to go back to figure skates. Any tips or advise will be appreciated.

I wouldn't suggest getting him hockey skates. Hockey skates have a different blade and structure. They don't have a toe pick so when he does get figure skates it will be hard for him to get used to them, he'd probably be tripping over the toe pick a lot. I also think the blades are thinner. My little brother would always use figure skates to go ice skating and then one time he had to use hockey skates and he said it was a lot harder to balance because the blade was thinner. Hockey skates are made for hockey so i wouldn't suggest using them for figure skating. If your trying to find them at your pro shop it's going to be hard because they don't sell a lot there. I went there one time looking for figure skates and all they had was some cheap ones and hockey skates. Get his feet measured and look online for figure skates.

I'd suggest the Reidell 21 or the Jackson artiste for beginners

What type of ICE Hockey skates are good for a beginner?

I've been out on the ice a couple times, and I've been using rental skates. I'm starting to like it, and I'm interested in buying myself a pair of skates so I can get better, and eventually move up into being a goaltender. I took it up about 3 months ago and I love it, even though I've only played street hockey. With that said, what kind of skates would be good beginner skates?

First off, do you want goalie skates or regular hockey skates? Goalie skated have a lower ankle like a midtop tennis shoe.
I would start out with a lowend skate before dropping $300-$500 on a pair. Here a few good low end skates, but remember you get what you pay for.
Player Skates:
CCM- VO3, VO4 VO5 (not a fan of these)
Bauer- Vapor X05, Vapor X15 or Vapor X20, Supreme One 15 and up. (Big fan of Bauer skates) also they have a better selection of lower end skates.
Easton- Stealth S7,

Goalie Skates:
Dont know much about goalie skated but I would stick with the CCM or Bauer Brands.

What ice hockey skates would be good for someone with a narrow foot and ankle?

Iv had trouble with getting ice skates that fit me as I have very narrow feet and ankles and often find that the skates are unstable on the ice as they wobble a bit.

Are there any ice skates (Make and model) that could fit me assuming Ill buy them in standard width (D) as I cant find any in a narrow width?

I'd try Mission skates. They make them very narrow, and you can also get them heat molded so that they will fit like a glove!! They also aren't too expensive (as far as skates go).
Good luck!

Ice hockey skates vary from figure skates in quite a few areas. Skates that are used in hockey are made to withstand much more abuse than those used in figure skating, making them more expensive and more bulky. Besides is not only thing that is different between these two types of skates, but the blades and every other aspect are also different.

The blades on ice hockey skates are different because they are shorter than those used on figure skates. Figure skate blades are much longer in order to allow the skater to be able to pull off various stunts, while those used for hockey are made to be much shorter so that they are covered entirely by the shoe portion, and they are also narrower to allow for more speed.
