What is the best type of inline hockey skates for a beginner?
Bauer RX-15 vapor - Hockey skates

Im intersted in buying inline skates, because i want to learn how to skate, hopefully after learning play some recreational roller hockey. Should I get just the regular roller inline skates, or just go ahead and buy the inline hockey skates?

Do you know any brands that are cheap?

thanks
so basically, regular inline skates (with brakes at the back), or hockey type?

Mission is the best in my opinion. The pair that I own was about $200+$300 (I don't remember exactly). I know that is a lot for a beginner. The thing is though, I have had chronic pain in my feet since I started 15 years ago. I have never had a "really good" pair of skates until now. My feet have never hurt in these skates.

I am assuming you are an adult and you don't have to worry about outgrowing a pair of skates. If you have to worry about your feet still growing, you should probably go cheaper. . .

What are the differrences between hockey inline skates and normal roller blades?
Roller Hockey Practice

Other than normal roller blades are normally plasic with straps and a brake and hockey skates are usually leather with laces, what are the differences?

Most recreational/fitness inline skates (Rollerblade is only one company that makes them) are not plastic anymore. K2 created the soft boot more than 10 years ago and it has taken over from the old plastic boots.

The big difference is that hockey skates are designed to be more durable to abuse and be more maneuverable.

The leather boots are both for protection from pucks, sticks, and other skates plus a bit of tradition. It would be perfectly feasible for hockey skates to be plastic.

The lack of a brake is because it would be easy to be tripped by your own or other people's skates. It is not needed because you are not stopping from high speeds and are usually trying to change your direction and keep moving towards the next play instead of stopping.

The wheels are smaller and on a shorter wheelbase so that you can turn sharper (freestyle skates also are like this). This is the most important difference. The smaller wheels and short wheelbase sacrifice top cruising speed for this maneuverability but this isn't a problem in a hockey rink.

Many hockey skates use a hi-low wheel setup where the rear wheels are larger than the front wheels. People believe that this gives an advantage in both acceleration (from the rear wheels) and maneuverability (from the front wheels).

Many hockey skates use 688 micro bearings instead of 608 standard bearings. The claim is that they are lighter and accelerate faster. In reality, the difference in weight is minimal. Racers tried micro bearings a few years ago and they disappeared because the weight difference had no effect and they were not as durable.

Many hockey skate use 6mm axles. 6mm axles are used in the cheaper recreational skates. The better rec skates, fitness skates, and racing skates use 8mm axles because they are more durable and easier to work with.

How to find size of inline hockey skates?
Roller Hockey Practice

I have some baur inline hockey skates that have been in storage for a a few years from when I went through my tomboy phase. They weren't used very much and i want to sell them on ebay but I can't find the size. I've looked in them, on the bottom- all over. How can I find it?

you could measure from heel to toe of the boot and just post that as the size on ebay. but if you do that dont say size # say 'the boot measures #inches' thats what ive seen done on older skates that may not have th size available. also try looking on the tongue of the skate more towards where to toe is, thats where my size thing is on my ice skates, for this you may have to loosen or undo some of the lacing which is no big deal because you can just redo it.

What makes inline hockey skates better than just inline skates?
Roller Hockey Practice

I'm starting from scratch to join a roller hockey league. So why can't I just buy regular off-the-shelf skates? Are they lighter/faster/sturdier? Is something about the other skates dangerous?

Roller hockey skates will hold up better and protect your feet. The boot is designed to protect your feet from the puck and will not be as easily damaged. The portion of the skate that holds the wheels is made of steel in a roller hockey skate vs. fiberglass for the inline skates. In addition, there is less ankle support in a roller hockey skate which provides the player with better skating movement (sharper turns can be made). In terms of protection, performance, and durability, it is worth the money to purchase hockey skates.
