What size hockey skates would a boys size 13 shoe wear?

The rule of thumb is 2 sizes smaller. Most of the guys I play with, including me, have skates that are 1 1/2 sizes smaller. Let him try both. With the new molding procedures they have nowadays, I'd say just make sure they're tight.

How much should I spend on hockey skates?

I have a 10 year old boy who is playing house hockey twice per week. How much should I be spending on his skates? What is the main difference between $50 skates and $200?

You should be spending somewhere in the middle. 50 dollar skates won't stand up to much, don't offer much protection and won't be that light.

Nice skates have a lot going for them, but for house you won't need top end stuff. Mid range is what you should get, especially since you're growing too.

Why are the rules for fighting different in girls and boys hockey?

Recently I played a game and got a 10 minute misconduct for punching someone in front of our net. There was no fight except for 2 punches exchanged, and no one was restrained-we both skated away by choice. I know that in boys hockey this would be a 2 minute penalty for roughing. Why are the rules different?

Maybe it's because you PUNCHED somebody? That's called "assault" and you'll get the same 10 minutes in the boys league. Most of the time, two players shove each other and jockey for position, no punching. Now that I think about it, oddly enough, you can cross-check someone and get two minutes. That's assault with a weapon....go figure...

By the way, as a former goalie, I would like to say good job on clearing that piece of garbage in front of your net. lol

What is the best roller hockey skate and stick for street hockey?

My boys are 13 and have been playing hockey about two weeks. Nothing serious. Pick up games in the street. One is on his second stick and the others brand new skates are falling apart. I just want to get the right equipment at the right price

mission roller skates are always a steal, and forr the stick if its nothing serious look for just a plain wooden stick they are the cheapest

How do I prevent from fallling backwards in ice skating?

I just went ice skating a week ago and I really suck at it. I got the hang of it when my friends started to teach me but i always had this fear that i would fall back and slam my head on the fllooor.
I wear hockey (boy) skates and they fit perfectly..so how can i prevent from falling back wards when skating? (or frontwards)...
Or how do i prevent from falling at all?

Thank you for those who answered.

squat a little, lean forward slightly, and bring your arms out for balance, one in front and one in back. try doing these things called swivels or scissors (everyone seems to call them something different)-- you kind of push your legs out and make an O. if you keep doing that, you can start moving. that's how they start teaching you to go backwards. then start practicing by going in circles doing something called crossovers. you push the inside leg behind the other and it makes you turn. it's really hard to explain through writing, if you remember these terms you could ask someone to show you them or just watch people skate and you'll see. it's all about balance keep working on it and you'll get it. it would help if you try these things while having a friend who is skating forwards holding your hands. have fun and be careful!
