are dec hockey or roller hockey goalie pads smaller than ice hockey goalie pads?
Slide Plates Installed

I was shopping around and it just seems roller hockey pads are smaller than ice hockey pads

that's because dec / roller hockey is usually played for rec purposes whereas ice hockey pads (which you could use on an indoor roller hockey surface like sport court - they just wear out excessively fast on asphalt / concrete) are worn by goalies who care a little more about their game, and are usually taller.

pret : yes well at the top levels (I therefore assume you've played NARCH or Koho Cup and similiar competitions) it's indoor and there, goalies are safe to use their ice gear, as I do. (mostly Vaughn, CCM and Brian's) - what I meant is that deck hockey and rec roller hockey is usually played on asphalt for fun, not competition and therefore I think the biggest asphalt-friendly goalie pad is 34in, whereas in ice we can wear pads up to 37.

Difference between Dek/Roller hockey and Ice hockey goalie pads?
Hockey Gear

I currently play Dek (roller without skates), and I play goalie. Currently I'm using very old pads that could be either Ice or Dek/Roller, i really don't know. So I was just wondering, is there a significant difference between Ice and Dek/Roller pads for a goalie? Thanks.

Roller hockey pads are lighter and made of lesser materials. Ice pads are heavier to accept the speed of the puck. Do not use roller for ice, it's ok to use ice for roller.

Do ice hockey goalie pads work when playing roller hockey on a synthetic surface?
Hockey Gear

I have rather old-ish Louisville's, and I was wondering if I would be wasting my time trying wear them while playing roller hockey on these new synthetic "ice" sheets. Do they slide at all? Wear down? Tear???

I'm mostly just worried about tearing them, they're old, like I said, and have some leather parts.

I would get a pair designed for roller, they're lighter and sometimes even have coolmax, unless playing in elite level tournaments you don't need that much protection since the puck /ball used office is considerably lighter than a ice one I have played on sportcourt using my ice goalie gear and was ok but outside it's useless to even consider doing so

anyone know where i can find roller/street hockey goalie pads in richmond/vancouver?
Hockey Gear

im looking for ones with knee stacks and the ones at canadian tire don't have goalie pads with knee stacks

Cyclone Taylor Sports .. if price is an issue, also try Craigslist or Kijiji

I have to admit right here and now – I’m not the world’s expert on roller hockey sticks. But I do have a 13 year old son who has been playing roller hockey since he was 6 years old, So I believe I have some authority on the subject. I’ll tell you what I know from a purely practical viewpoint, and let you be the judge of the information. Fair enough?

Size The Roller Hockey Stick Correctly Roller hockey sticks must be sized correctly for the height of the player. After watching literally hundreds of hockey games, I can tell you that parents are not always on top of their kids’ hockey gear – especially hockey sticks. More often than not, the hockey player will grow out of his or her stick. This is so true as you watch a kid out on the rink who has a hockey stick that would have been too small even last season! Come on, parents – roller hockey is difficult enough without being hampered by a too-small stick. ‘Nuff said on this topic.
