Im not looking to go all out, all i need is skates, shin guards, elbow pads, a helmet, and a stick.
how much am i looking at spending?
depends on condition and quality. what about some gloves?
Each manufacturer is different, so make sure you know the difference when selecting the right skate for you.
I play roller hockey and am starting ice this year can I buy all ice gear such as stick. chest pad. Shin guard and elbow and use for both instead of 1 set for each thanks hockeyfreak
any good stick suggestions Im playing with a mission toxic stick but blade was hollow also so I went right through any suggestions?
Yes you can use most of the same stuff, but usually you want to buy small, light equipment for roller and more protective equipment for ice. The choice is yours though. Shin pads, elbow pads, stick for sure.

The Fireman golaie series from Tour is the perfect starter package for the future goalie in your family. This will give him the protection he needs to start out between the pipes.
Lightweight EVA padding
Durable reinforced stitching
I just joined a roller hockey league for my college but I have only played ice hockey. Thus, I have all my ice hockey gear but i dont know if that can be used for roller hockey and whether or not its all the same stuff or not.
Therefore, what exactly do i need? And can i use all my ice hockey stuff, or is roller hockey gear different from ice hockey's?
Basically yes, the only gear that is different is the skates, now adays everyone uses roller blades.

do i need a jock short? anything else?
You need to wear (well, you "should" wear) a protective cup. You can wear the jock short type (just leave the velcro tabs closed), or wear a standalone cup.
The other option is the compression short/cup route; Under Armour makes a great hockey-specific one.
Not sure about the compositite stick; you can probably just use a fibreglass/wood stick (more durable).
For pants- I'd just get the roller hockey "cooperall" type. Much more functional.
I'd also consider a mouthguard. While full facial protection from a cage is great, it does not protect your teeth from a jarring hit.
I'm assuming your team has a set of jerseys. Regular ice hockey jerseys work fine (I played inline a few summers ago; we just bought solid colour blanks and got numbers).
I'm takin up roller hockey for my college's club, and I've never played before. I was hopin someone could help me with a few quick questions...
First, I bought all my mandatory stuff....helmet, gloves, shin guards and skates and such...and then I bought a girdle and hockey pants (I bought everything from Play it again sports...so most of it's used..), and here's where my question comes in...first off...when I wear the girdle...it literally looks like there's a 2x4 comin outta my "back side"...haha...and it looks just plain wierd...do all girdles have a back like this, or is it just the fact that I bought a bad one? Also, my helmet is a large, but is too big in the front of my head, even when I made it as small as possible...but medium is too small on the sides...any thoughts on how to make it tighter?
Yes, the girdle is normal, i've been playing roller hockey for 4 years now and i still am using the same one. You need to return the hockey helmet...just get a smaller size. Good luck with the team.
Who you playin for?

Hockey Equipment Guides And What To Know | Articles Reloaded
Hockey Equipment is basically divided into two sub categories for me. What will protect me and what will in improve my game. For those of you who are unsure about this sort of thing, you need to draw up your very own hockey equipment guide that is relevant to the way you play hockey. How often do you see players that think they are awsome because they have a certain type of gear they just bought. Beginners at the sport do this often. They think that because some NHL star uses this brand, then they will be like them. It doesn't work like that, not in the sport of hockey where it is kill or be killed.
You can improve your speed with hockey equipment. It depends on how light and fast you want to move. Remember, that sometimes you are sacrificing protection for speed and vice versa. Now there is hockey gear out there that is both light and heavy on the protection, but you will have to part with some of your hard earned cash. This goes with any sport though. The top of the line will require the top price and that is just the way it is when it comes to shopping for sports equipment.
