-Hockey player poll- What's your favourite brand of cloth / stick tape?

Been using Renfrew for many years, but running low. The rink I play at - the only one within a 2+ hour drive) sells Pro Guard and I am not a fan of that brand. Being in Texas, i can't get nor try 3M which is apparently good quality. What are your thoughts on Howie's Hockey Tape?

I'm using 3M now, but Renfrew is my favorite brand. As I told you, Renfrew seems to stick a little better than 3M, but they are almost the same. Like Chuck said, you could order some tape online. Between that period of time, you could either use Pro Guard or buy/get some tape from your friends. I can't really comment on Pro Guard or Howie's because I don't know these. And I'm pretty sure Pro Guard is way better than those crappy ones you can get at dollar stores lol.

Hockey tape?

There are a lot of hockey tapes on the market (Renfrew, CanTech,Jaybird) So, I was wondering what is the difference between them? Which one is better and why?
And I also want to know to know the structure of the tape, of what it is made and in what a percentage materials are used.

There are no significant differences between the different brands of hockey tape. Most are made of cotton with an adhesive. The adhesive while manufactured by different companies is also not significantly different.

Much like linens, the difference in quality of any cloth tape is in the thread count. The higher the thread count, the better the quality. You typically will not be able to notice the difference in thread count by looking at two rolls of hockey tape made by different manufacturers side by side. One company may have a slightly higher thread count than another but you would likely need to count it yourself or contact each manufacturer to get the official numbers. You could see a significant difference in the thread count if you held up a roll of cloth medical tape to hockey tape. It's designed to be disposable anyway, so they use the cloth with the lower thread count to keep it cost effective.

The total of all of this is $324.88 tax included.
I have $350 from christmas left over.
I'm a beginner player at 12.5 years old.

Do you think I should get it? Yes or no and please explain why.
I already have Skates (said above)
3 sticks easton elite, rbk 6k and ccm v06.
A jill
Socks and jersey
And a neck protector

I think you should go to your local hockey store and try everything on first if you can find them. Buying online is great, but what if they don't fit you. Make sure it fits properly. If everything goes well, buy it if that's what you really want.

Also, try www.hockeygiant.com . They might have the same stuff but at a lower price.
Edit: Nevermind, it's the same thing, except hockey monkey has combos.

  • Hockey Tape Debate : Renfrew vs Jaybird - ModSquadHockey

I have not used friction tape since I was a kid. But from what I remember it definitely softens the feel of the blade since it is thicker. As far as grip goes it sticks more than cloth tape but as much as cloth with a ton of wax, I do not know. I would highly recommend buying a single roll and trying it out before you purchase a 200.00 dollar box of it. Just my thoughts. I don't think you can say friction tape is better or worse, it's mostly a personal preference thing. There are a lot of threads on here about different tape brands. I think i remember seeing something about Renfrew having different levels of quality depending on the color of the center of the roll. I think the black...
