National Hockey League

The National Hockey League is the number one ice hockey league in North America and in fact the world. As a foreigner in the UK, fully aware that football and cricket are more popular here, is there any channel that can cater to a "puckhead" :)

channel 5 used to show them live as did channel 4 but I haven't seen any for ages.
I wonder if sky sports would show them?

A regulation National Hockey League ice rink has a perimeter of 570 feet. The length is 30 feet longer than twice the width. What are the length and width of an NHL ice rink?

Length = 200
Width = 85

Solved using guess and check... I'm sure there's a better way though.

I have watched NHL Hockey since the Origional Six was still around, prided myself on having a fair amount of knowledge of the game, yet ever since these new "Obstruction" rules came into place to speed up the game, all of these phantom penalty calls only slows the game down. I see the most obvious of penalties overlooked and the silly ones called. Where can a fan go to complain about this, as I am almost about to give up watching this sport.

Anyway, I think the decline began in the late 1980's due to the understandable efforts to improve the flow of the game. I don't fault the rules, but I do fault the referee's who call them as THEY see them. Since that's simply a case of humans being humans, I doubt that I'll ever see two referee's agree on anything. That calls for a rewrite of any obstruction penalty.

Right now, I don't like how the games are called. It's too easy to get a penalty yet every team has gotten away with calls too.

If you could interview an NHL expert and ask anything about the history of NHL what would it be?
No questions asking only about one hockey team. I mean like everybody in the NHL like what kind of health care they have.

How did hockey originate? does it have ties with tribal games. Did eskimos play with sticks on the ice?
