I was playing hockey and so my friend had an open net so i slid my stick across the ground to knock it away (which i did successfully w/o it making contact with him). But he claimed it was illegal which I said it was legal because it didn't make contact with him. Who's right?
There is a penalty for such action. The penalty is called throwing equipment or stick. Rule 53

I'm 7 months post operation from my ACL and ive noticed in hockey and lacrosse im a bit top heavy so if anyone hits me i just drop its like i have no way of catching myself is there anything that could cause this from a ACL surgery and any way to improve?
I am betting that it is not that you are top heavy i am betting that your leg is weak and needs to be strengthened.

In a NASCAR race, if I cause an accident that kills somebody...i get sent to grief counselling. In Montreal if I cause an accident and kill somebody - I get charged with vehicular manslaughter whether it wass an accident or not.
Similarly, hockey's rules allow fighting in the same way football rules allow bodily assault and NASCAR, F1, and IRL rules allow excessive speed! Why not post a similar question about speeding or vehicular manslauter in the motorsports category?

in a game of field hockey if the ball is in the air are you allowed to knock in straight down with your stick or must you wait for it to land?
No, it's considered dangerous play, you need to wait for it to land, and depending on your level of play the ref might call a penalty on the payer who lifted it.
