Ways to Get Kids Hockey Equipment Without Breaking Your Budget

WhWhere is the best place or website to buy ice hockey equipment for kids?
Mezuzah Sports Red Blue Green 102011

My advice is never buy online unless you have already tried on the equipment elsewhere and know its what your kid wants. I've played competitive hockey for 16 years and the feel of the equipment is always the most important aspect. It can be great quality and the right size but if the equipment isn't comfortable or doesn't have that right feel i would never buy it. I'd try a local store i find the service at small stores is always better and the prices are usually very competitive if not try a bigger store like sportcheck.

How should hockey equipment cost for my kids?
Let's Play Hockey!

My son and daughter are starting ice hockey this year and I want to know how much it would roughly cost for the two of them combined. I have no budget but don't get me to buy composite sticks, as I've already bought them some nice and light wood sticks. Thanks everyone!

BTW my son is 9 and my daughter is 8 and will be playing house league, not rep.
sexist much, Mike? but thanks for the info on my son.
Thanks for the answers guys. I went on hockey monkey, and it's gunna cost around $1300 including my 14 year old's sons new Warrior pro stock dolomite and and clearence easton s17.

Aleef don't listen to that sexist dude.

Since they are still young, you don't need to get these expensive brands. They will eventually grow up fast so you'll probably have to change their gear once in a while. Cheap equipment will do. The answer for the approximate price was given. Don't forget that in addition to the gear, you'll need to pay for the subscription, the uniform and the training camp (is there is one). But I would add some things.

You could go to places where they sell hockey gear that are not that expensive like Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, or Dicks* (not sure).
You could also buy online on Hockeygiant, hockeymonkey, etc. Just make sure you know your kid's size before ordering. Now, most of online and local shops have a discount on their equipment because it's off season.
Another alternative would be to buy used, either at a store like Play it again sports or online on Ebay, Kijiji, or Craiglist. However if you use online it will take some time to be shipped.

It's a good thing you decided to share the passion of hockey. I didn't have that chance since my parents couldn't afford to get me into that sport. Good luck!

How do I know if my hockey equipment fits correctly?

My kid is starting a hockey skills program and I got some hand me down equipment, but I don't know if the chest pad/shoulder pads fit right. How much of the belly should be covered by the chest pad?

The chest pads should allow room to move without being too loose and should come down an inch or two over the top of the pants - make sure they are pulled up high enough around the waist and tightened enough so they stay up. Also the shoulder pads will just meet or overlap the elbow pads if it's a proper fit. Welcome to the hockey mom/dad world. Maybe we'll see you at a game!

If I have repeatedly asked my neighbour's kid not to leave his hockey equipment in the middle of the road?

and I ran over his stick and broke it, can they make me pay for a new one?

Probably not. the law is different in each U.S. state na dalso Canadian province. The item was in a potentialy hazardous place and it could have done damage to a car or a pedestrian.
Complain to the city works department about dangerous debris in the road. They might have a word with the perisher's parents or cite them for breach of some city ordinance. Or better yet remove the items and cart them away. (especially if you complain fairly early in the morning.).
If that does not work. Placing red peppers flakes in the gloves may cause some rethinking. (the idea is not to get cought doing that.)
Good luck.

  • Ice Hockey Skates Technology | Roller Hockey Equipment & Ice ...

I sure hope this technology doesn’t replace real ice EVER. unfortunately if it is the most cost effective alternative to real ice people will use it! and rinks around the country will close down.

i fear this will lead to the total demise of real ice hockey rinks in america, with something, (the skating, the aesthetics, the tradition) being compromised in the process.

how does it feel to make a quick cut or hockey stop? it cant be close to the same feeling.

Synthetic ice is not really that good to skate on. It is not good for the blades. It can ruin the edges really quickly.

It will never completely replace ice rinks! :] Trust me on this! People won’t be completely using synthetic ice!
