its my first year of inline hockey, what do i need, how is it played can you hit?
Well if you’ve played ice hockey, you’ll find it pretty different. There are only 4 skaters, no offsides, no icing, and no hitting. You can pin players against the boards and get a little physical, but no full on checks against the boards. The rink dimensions are the same at most places, and so are the goals. Most of the play is still the same: 2 defense, 2 offense, 3-on-4 powerplays, 2-on-4 powerplays, ect. All the penalties are the same too, cross-checking, hooking and all that.
As for what you need, well the good news is that you can use a lot of your ice equipment. Same gloves, stick (if you’re playing indoors on sportcourt or concrete), elbow pads, shin pads, and helmet. You can use shoulder pads if you like, but they’re not required and rarely needed. Breezers or girdles aren’t required either, but you can get special inline girdles that are lightweight and very breathable. You won’t wear your socks, because inline players wear special loose pants that go over shin pads and breezers. Those can range from $15-$80 and most major brands sell them.
Your skates will arguably be the most important piece of equipment you buy. Get a true hockey skate from a good brand like Mission, Nike-Bauer, or CCM Vector. Just about all inline chassis have a “hi-lo” set up with 80mm wheels in back and 72mm in front. This will give a better turning radius and the feel of being on ice. Make sure that you buy a set of soft wheels if you’re going to play indoors, softer wheels means better grip. Look into Labeda and Rink Rat brands for those. Good luck and have fun.
took a camera and some dangles to the rink a couple days Ive been receiving a lot of facebook friend requests as a result of people watching this ...
Im intersted in buying inline skates, because i want to learn how to skate, hopefully after learning play some recreational roller hockey. Should I get just the regular roller inline skates, or just go ahead and buy the inline hockey skates?
Do you know any brands that are cheap?
thanks
so basically, regular inline skates (with brakes at the back), or hockey type?
Mission is the best in my opinion. The pair that I own was about $200+$300 (I don't remember exactly). I know that is a lot for a beginner. The thing is though, I have had chronic pain in my feet since I started 15 years ago. I have never had a "really good" pair of skates until now. My feet have never hurt in these skates.
I am assuming you are an adult and you don't have to worry about outgrowing a pair of skates. If you have to worry about your feet still growing, you should probably go cheaper. . .

Direct Power System (DPS)- This is a cavity in the front portion of the outsole allowing larger 80mm wheels to be recessed into the skate. Therefore, the skate can use all 80mm sized wheels to increase the player?s speed and maximum grip.

I have never played inline hockey and my trial is soon. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? What do they look for at a trial?
I'm hoping you played hockey before. Making the change from ice to inline isn't too hard, but the skating is different. Get out and and skate so you can find your edges. You can adjust the rocker by using different size wheels (small in the front and back with big in the middle). Practise stick handling a bit too, the puck sticks to the rink more when inline, even though the puck is lighter.
Good luck!
I have some baur inline hockey skates that have been in storage for a a few years from when I went through my tomboy phase. They weren't used very much and i want to sell them on ebay but I can't find the size. I've looked in them, on the bottom- all over. How can I find it?
you could measure from heel to toe of the boot and just post that as the size on ebay. but if you do that dont say size # say 'the boot measures #inches' thats what ive seen done on older skates that may not have th size available. also try looking on the tongue of the skate more towards where to toe is, thats where my size thing is on my ice skates, for this you may have to loosen or undo some of the lacing which is no big deal because you can just redo it.
I want to start inline hockey this summer. I'm currently in college so I have to wait until summer to join a camp or league. I was wondering what equipment I would need to start. I have inline skates without the brakes but they aren't official inline hockey skates. Basically, I know nothing about it and really want to know.
Here is a good checklist about necessary equipment:
http://www.hockey.us/docs/hockey-equipme nt-checklist/
The list is for ice hockey so you will not need the following.
Garder Belt
Shoulder Pads - However there are Roller Hockey "Upper body protectors" that are nice.
Hockey Pants - Will need Roller Hockey pants tho.
Throat Protector
Here is another good read about the new advances in Roller Hockey equipment that have happened over the years.

Hope this helps and enjoy! Roller hockey is a blast!

Detroit Revolution Roster Shake Up - Professional Inline Hockey ...
The Detroit Revolution have made some major changes to it's organizational structure as well as it's roster for the remainder of he 2010-2011 PIHA season. Among those changes are the announcement of a new home facility, Joe Dumars Fieldhouse. Located in Shelby Township, Michigan. Joe Dumars houses the largest inline hockey program in the State of Michigan, the Little Caesars Roller Hockey Program.
The Detroit Revolution made this move in hopes of giving their players the best possible playing experience they could, and believed that with the administrative changes and facility change, the Revolution teams would be better suited for competition. Poor relations between RHSSA and The Revolution...
