Because there is no ice in Northern Ireland and I need to practice shooting and stickhandling I need a puck that will glide on dryland and be the same weight and act like a pro hockey black puck. Oh and any tips for dryland stickhandling and shooting to make it almost identical to on the ice and also any drills? Thanks in advance guys!
Sorry by ice i mean naturally occurring ice not ice rinks although there is only 1 ice rink

Jeez, have you looked out the window today? :-)
Puck scoop
An Ice hockey puck in the shape of a cylinder has a radius of 3.8cm, height of 2.5cm and density of 1.5cm^3, calculate its mass.
(Please can you show me your working so I remember how to do it for next time!)
Thanks :)
Ok what you need to know for this one is the volume of a cylinder:
Vol = (area of base) * height
You know that a cylinder has a circle base, so what is the area of a circle?
Area of circle = pi * r^2
So volume of a cylinder is:
Vol = area of circle * height
Vol = pi*r^2*height
Now density = mass / volume.
You need to find mass correct?
mass = density * volume
So mass = (pi * r^2 * height) * density
Plug the numbers in and make sure you are using cm.. If not you have to convert all units to the same unit of measurement.
hope this helps
the puck rebounds with a speed of .75 times the speed with which it struck the fence,before returning to the the starting point. calculate the coefficient of friction between puck and the ice
Let:
F be the friction force,
R be the normal reaction of the ice on the puck,
m be the mass of the puck,
u be the coefficient of friction,
g be the acceleration due to gravity,
a be the acceleration of the puck.
For vertical equilibrium:
R = mg
Horizontally:
F = - ma
As the friction is limiting:
F = uR
Eliminating R and F:
umg = - ma
ug = - a ...(1)
Applying equation of motion for uniform acceleration:
(0.75 * 6)^2 = 6^2 + 2a * 27 ...(2)
Substituting for a from (1) in (2):
9 / 2 = 36 - 54ug
u = (36 - 4.5) / 54g
= 31.5 / (54 * 9.81)
= 0.0595.

I have no access to the new fancy molecular practice pads, I just want to how to make a practice pad.
I will make you a practice pad. I use HDPE, and I bevel the edges to make it easier to slide the puck up onto it. I can ship it to you UPS.
I have made dozens of these for friends and fellow hockey players around the USA. A 24 x 48 pad will run you around $25 bucks. I will ship it to you on UPS usually for around $15-$20 depending on where you live.
P.S. Plexiglas will break after a while, and gets full of static that grabs the puck when you stickhandle on it after a while.
Email me if you would like one....
EDIT: Thanks, Stevo! Do you want to be a sales rep for me? HAHAHA!!!!!!
i practice hockey in my back garden but the one that ive had works but it has a crack in the middle help
Get some tile or linoleum. If you can find it, some hockey shops sell synthetic ice in sheets. Personally, I use an old shelf that's been laminated. It feels just like ice.

Hockey Prospectus | Numbers On Ice: Does Shot Quality Exist?
When shot quality was first analyzed several years ago by Alan Ryder and Ken Krzywicki , it was hailed as a big breakthrough in the numerical analysis of hockey. Sadly, biases in the way the NHL records shot distance caused the data to be less reliable than it should have been, and we’ve even discovered that there may be bias in the recording of shot totals (Objective NHL had a great series on this here , here and here , see also my analysis here . In recent years, we have come full circle: Corsi numbers have become a popular way of rating players, and many members of the Corsi crowd have called into question the very existence and validity of shot quality . I think it is time for this to stop. Shot quality exists, it is measurable and it is verifiable. Now it's time to convince you of this.
