field hockey training schedule help me please?

i've never played and anyone who tries out makes it but I need to know some background info please. I'm a dancer and not amazing at sports. my friend and I are gonna start training and I wil ltrain by myself. school starts september first. what should I know about the game and how should I train? thank you.

here's my training idea. otherwise i know nothing and have no equipment. i'm in middle school.
•Training with my friend
oRun three times a week back and forth from our houses
oDo exercise videos
oConditioning two to three times a week
oFake field hockey games
•Training alone
oRun three additional times a week through queens
oDo exercise videos
oConditioning four times a week
oPractice the game

Wow sounds like a good training regiment. I'm no training guru but I think if you keep it up and motivate each other you two will be fine.
I played field hockey for all of my middle school years and honestly, I think the best thing to do is get your endurance up and practice your stick control. It depends on what position you want. If you want a forward you're going to have to be very fast, aggressive, and be really good with controlling the ball and passing and whatnot. Basically everything haha! For defense you should be able to have very powerful swings and also be very aggressive. When I am playing on defense I find that it's best to start running towards the attacker early on because it intimidates them (or at least I try! I'm quite short...).
There are other positions but I'm sure you can google it...
I'm going into 9th grade and I am planning to try out. Basically I'm just running and doing sit ups to help my back because when you play field hockey you're crouching over a lot! And I have to practice with my drives because I have a hand-me-down stick and I'm not exactly the the most powerful hitter. I'd definitely recommend practicing passing the ball with your friend! It's harder than it looks, especially when you're running and there are lots of people coming at you at the same time.
Good luck!

Gymnastics Training for Hockey Players?

I work for a gymnastics club that is opening up a special class for a hockey team. I play hockey as well, so I have been assigned to teach this class.

They are coming to work on strength and flexibility. Other than the typical conditioning (which you wouldn't really need to come to a gymnastics studio for), can anyone suggest some moves to teach them to help with this? I would really like to utilize the equipment and my unique knowledge of both sports.

THANKS!

Your class would be huge for goalies.

For players there are certain moves that they make that could help you to come up with some exercises to assist their training. You should watch some games with a DVR and slow down some of the plays where they open up the skates to a 9 and 3 type of a position just as an example.

Well I grew up next door to a now very famous NHLer and yes he played Team Canada too! They were four brothers and all the boys in the neighbourhood just always seemed to gather to play in our mutual driveway that we shared with our neighbours. There wasn't a day our driveway (spilling over onto the street) wasn't filled with boys playing hockey.

My favourite memory is that before my dad wised up and put metal mesh over all the basement windows...they would often get smashed by a ball or puck...so out would come running my (Italian) grandma with her wooden spoon waving in the air and chase everyone off. If you knew how common this scene was would you would laugh...because there were kids who would purposely entice her just to see her chase them with a spoon, broom, and often wooden bat...it was comical. My grandma didn't speak Engish so often she went by body language and she would just know when they were making fun of her and that would just get her going even more!

Mr. S. next door however always very kind and made sure any damages were paid for by the responsible party...I would just sit on my porch and watch all the action. I couldn't play of course...there weren't many girls on our street and so it wasn't much fun being a girl and being told hockey was not for girls that's for sure!

Now I watch my own boys play and those will one day be fond memories too.

wats the best cardio for hockey that u can do without to much equipment?

i have a treamill and a stationary bike...wat are some excersices to increase speed but don't lose to much calories because i also do weight training and i'm bulking up and dun wanna burn muscle

Ladders. Or Herbies, if you've seen MIracle and/or have a coach that happens to be from the late70s early 80s and remembers that. On parking lots, just use the lines for the spaces as the lines on the ice and run ladders that way.

  • Hockey Training Equipment – The 3 Best Training Aids to Use in ...

Hockey requires diligent training, and hockey training equipment can really go a long way in helping you get the most out of your workouts. Working out without training aids is good, but working out with training aids will increase your gains. Here are the three best training aids to use in your off-ice workouts.

    1) Smart Hockey Stick Handling Ball

These things are absolutely great. Smart Hockey’s stick handling balls emulate the weight, slide, bounce and contact height of a puck, so you can work on your stick handling on any surface. These are great to bring out when you do your dry-land training. Russian and European players used wooden stick handling balls for decades. This ball is the next evolution of that.
