Football (soccer) has the World Cup. Golf has the Masters. What do you think is the most prestigious international hockey tournament??
1. The Winter Olympics
2. The IIHF World Cup of Hockey
3. The IIHF World Juniors
4. The World Championships
An Olympics Gold medal is not awarded every year and all countries can now ice their best players thanks to the NHL letting the players play. The World Cup of hockey may in fact ice some better teams though because it happens before a season and there tends to be fewer guys opting out due to injury.
The Juniors is a good measure of things to come. And the World Championships rarely sees the best players.
So the first two are a good Gage since each is only run every 4 years and has the best field. I'd put them on equal footing.
For the first time, next year's the tournament will feature nighttime pond hockey under the lights on Lake Erie at downtown Buffalo's Erie ...

I'am looking for ideas to make a hockey tournament above average, something both kids and parents will remember. Special events ,awards open to any ideas.
I still play youth hockey im a bantam now but when I love to go to hotels for a hockey tournaments. I always look forward to going into the pool after a game or sit in a hottub. I also like to get my team together and if anyone has floor ( knee ) hockey nets, sticks , and a ball or two i love to play floor hockey. The kids like to play floor hockey alot to and they like to go in the hotel pool. And also if there is a ahl, nhl, or college arena around where your going maybe try and get tickets to a game one of the nights you stay up there for the whole team. I live in maine and i love to go to maine black bear college games there so fun... Or maybe find a fun , not so fancy restaurant around were you guys are staying and maybe make reservations ?? I hope i helped have fun ! good luck!
I was just curious how Olympic hockey was set up. I know the US beat Canada the other day, but they could play again in the tournament? Was the first round just to set up seeding? and how is that if they all didn't play each other. Just curious on how it is all set up. Thanks.
There are three groups, each group contains four teams, making up 12 teams in total. After the round-robin, the top four teams get a bye into the quarterfinals. It is the three group winners (USA, Sweden, Russa) and the fourth team is the next team with the most points, in this case, Finland.
The remaining eight teams are ranked and play each other in the qualification round (5 Czechs vs 12 Latvia, 6 Canada vs 11 Germany, 7 Slovakia vs 10 Norway and 8 Switzerland vs 9 Belarus). That four winners of those games play the four that got a bye in the quarterfinals (1 USA vs the winner of 8/9 which was Switzerland, 2 Sweden vs the winner of 7/10 which was Slovakia, 3 Russia vs the winner of 6/11 which was Canada and 4 Finland vs the winner of 5/12 which was Czechs).
In the Semifinals, the winner of the game involving team 1 USA plays the winner of the game involving team 4 Finland, so the USA will play Finland. The other semi-final game is the winner of the game involving teams 2 and 3. In this case teams 2 and 3 both lost, to Slovakia and Canada, so Canada and Slovakia will play in the semi-final.
The Gold Medal game is of course between the winners of the remaining teams and the Bronze medeal game is between the losers of the semi-finals.
So the way it is set up, Canada can only play the US again if it's in the Gold Medal or Bronze Medal game.
I am in charge of planning my son's hockey tournament this year. I know what has been done in the past, but I am looking for some really awesome ideas for the kids to have a great time, because it is our major fundraiser, I am also looking for fantastic ideas for parents and kids alike. also prize ideas for our raffle table. If anyone has been to a fantastic event or has any ideas I would love to hear about them.
this is an Atom aged tournament.

See if you can get the local police involved with a radar gun. Speeds of just about everything in hockey can then be determined and prizes awarded. PLUS it puts the kids close to the people that are in the community to protect them.

Local RCMP officers suiting up for hockey tournament - Leduc ...
From Jan. 27-29 local residents will have the opportunity to see Leduc and area RCMP officers take part in a fun-filled hockey atmosphere during the Red Coats for Kids Hockey Tournament at the Leduc Recreation Centre (LRC).
The annual hockey tournament will pit teams of RCMP officers from two different age groups — those 35 years and over and 35 years old and under.
The goal of the hockey tournament is to create friendly competition between local RCMP detachments, help raise money for non-profit community groups and show that the officers are more than just a man or woman in a uniform.
"It's quite an interesting event. For us, it's going to be a lot of fun, but we also want to give back to the community," explained Cpl. Mark Dudley, Red Coats for Kids Hockey Tournament organizer.
