I can ice skate ok and ive always tryed to do that hockey stop thing, but i never seem to quite get it! Any tips or suggestions?!
When you do a hockey stop, you have to turn your hips quickly sideways while keeping your feet together. The quick snap is the most important part. If you twist slowly, you won't really get the snap needed for the stop. You actually have to lean back just a little with most of your weight on your front foot.

How do you do a hockey stop on ice? I played inline hockey all my life and now tryin to play ice but having trouble with stopping
Inline stopping is so different from on-ice stopping. It takes a lot of practice.
To do a hockey stop, shift your balance to one side, turn your feet sharply and slide sideways on your edges. If you want to turn to the left, you should shift to the left, turn your hips left, then left your right leg (which is leading) slide sideways on an inside edge.
Please make sure you bend your knees and keep your hands at waist height. That'll keep you from falling.
Practice Drills:
Choose two hockey lines, side-by-side.
Skate straight towards one of the lines, bend your knees, shift your weight, and make a really sharp turn to glide along the line.
Head for the other line and repeat.
Once you can make a rectangle with turns and lines, all you have to do is make the turn and let the forward leg scrape sideways on the inside edge ACROSS the line. That's a simple hockey stop.
You can get fancier by learning to keep your weight back and do two-foot stops with both feet engaged in scraping to a stop. That's a 'full' hockey stop that generates a lot of snow.
I have been playing hockey for almost a year now and I am still having a hard time learning how to stop. What is the best way to practice on how to stop?
You might want to take some lessons or learn from a friend, but I can sort of help. You don't want your feet exactly parallel to each other, you want them a little apart, so if your stopping on your right side, you'll want your left skate a little bit forward, and your right one a little bit back. Since your stopping towards the right, try leaning a little to the left to balance out the force of you stopping. Also, try searching on YouTube for some videos.

I am a good hockey player and know how to hockey stop on the right side but my left side isnt as good. Any tips?
practise, practise, practise
if needed, put an ankle weight on your right side to force you to work on the left
I know you have to put all of your weight on one foot, because i can do a hockey stop on my right foot but not my left. I tend to fall or spin, or my skate gets stuck in the ice and I can't scrape. I need tips because I don't know if its my skate or me.
It takes time just practice. Stopping on the left is probably more difficult because you have naturally stopped using your right foot. Just as going counter clock wise around the rink is easier than clock wise. When trying to stop on your left just put pressure on the inside of your left skate when you try to stop.Good luck.
