Hockey Socks

After playing inline hockey where players wear full length pants I am going to start playing on ice where players wear socks. How do these socks stay on shin pads or attach to the body?

Old style you wore garters that kept them up; now the shorts you keep your cup in have velcro flaps that attach to the top of your socks and keep them up under your hockey pants.

I don't wear either. I don't need a cup, and the garters make me laugh. I wear workout pants under my gear because it keeps me cooler and warmer, and keeps my gear from getting as stinky.

So I just pull my socks up over my shinguards and tape them once around the top so they don't slip back down again. Sometimes I'll tape under my knee too, but really it's not a big deal. My pads and my socks all seem to stay put just fine.

I don't like bare legs against my shinguards. Gross. Ew.

I'm not the only person who does it this way, but I think most people wear the shorts. Even the girls on my girls' team do.

Are hockey socks suppose to be inside the skates, or should they wrap around the bottom, arnd the flap on the skates? and cover your laces?

It is personal preference although most people I play with have them inside the boot (as I do also). Most players tape their laces so they dont come loose, putting the sock over them isnt as good as they can still work themselves loose in my opinion.

I just bought some new hockey socks and they seem really long. So I was wondering how long should they actually be?

right in the middle of your thigh, to your ankle.
if they seem to long, pull them up higher, and then fold them down at the top.
i like mine a little longer, because i put my sock over the tounge of my skate.

i have been looking for some nike hockey socks.
but i cant seem to find them anywhere.

Well, I thought this would be an easy question but as you probably know, none of the online hockey shops that I know of carry these anymore. Your best bet is probably to monitor eBay and bid when they pop up. There aren't any now but have been in the past. If you really, really want them badly, you can do a search on sold eBay socks, contact the buyer, and find out if they want to sell. You could also contact the seller and find out where they got theirs from.

The other two are right but that velcro begins to wear away and is not always the best. Try a garter belt which the first guy explained. It clips on the socks and can be adjusted for different length socks. And a lttle tape over the sock might help to keep the shinguard on securely and tight. It also depends on what feels comfortable.
