I am looking into getting ice hockey equipment. My boyfriend is teaching me to play, so I need to get all the required equipment. Is there a difference between men and womens shoulder pads? I got a pair of men's and they seem a little tight around the bust but at my local hockey store all they have is men's.
Men's pads will work fine, but women's pads have a large chest plate that is molded for a woman's body. If you can only find men's, use them, but make sure you find a model that doesn't easily ride up.

I'm a woman playing men's lacrosse, but they don't make shoulder pads (or at least I can't find them) that accommodate a woman's body. Ice hockey does though, so could I substitute those in?

very good answer above. congratulations on your choice of sport. you will have to go to a well stocked sporting gods shop. have to find lacrosse pads that fit. box pads are uni sex. just a matter of try to set fits. you do not want a tight fit. you may even have to use two different brands for comfort and flexibility. also try every brand of gloves. like pads every brand feels different.

Ok i ripped off my left shoulder pad on my hockey shoulder pads and i'm getting new ones this weekend so what brand should i get.
nike/bauer.. ive always been a big fan of their gear. dont go for the low end stuff.. if you want quality products, buy their high end stuff.. it may cost more but its worth it

my ice hockey shoulder pads go up to a little over my belly button is that good?
thats too far if it interferes with your breezers. they should end right under your chest.
I'm 5ft 1, 125lbs. Yes, not quite hockey player size, but I enjoy it. Any ideas where I can get some pads with narrower shoulders or ones that aren't too bulky? They all seem to much on me. I've tried juniors but even those are too big for me to get a jersey on without help.
