I'm starting field hockey soon and had to buy a pair, but the ones I bought seem to say that they are good for soccer? They are Adidas and have a hard shell on the outside. I'm wondering if I can use these and if not what do real field hockey shin guards look like? Or rather which ones should I buy?
Hey,yeah there is a huge difference. My field hockey shin guards have the hard shell in the front and the small covering in the back to cover your legs.In soccer, the shin guards usually just cover the front. But if you can try to get field hockey shin guards cause trust me with the ball and everything it will hurt with soccer shin guards,i have learned from expirence.you should be able to tell the difference cause field hockey shin guards are way thicker.
if you go here you can see what they look like, and they arent that expensive either :)

www.greatskate.com Mike shows us how to properly fit kids shin pads for ice hockey.
I have been playing field hockey for the past three weeks and I sweat a lot. This causes all my equipment, especially my shin guards to smell. My shinguard has a very thin pad and I think it is removable. What should I do?
Even if the shin pad is not removable, throw them in the wash. The hot soap and water will help kill the bacteria in there.
I wash almost all my hockey gear, and no problems.
hey guys...i just bought a new pair of hockey shin guards...i normally wear them inside of my toung, but when i put them on today they like couldnt fit under there so i tried putting it outside of the tounge( the way most NHL players wear them)...i was just wondering what is your presference on how to wear your shin guards
ok sorry i kinda babbled a lot there
I used to wear mine on the inside, but then my coach told me that it's better to wear them on the outside, bc you can get better knee bend, without putting so much pressure on your ankles. So, I tried it, and I really like it, and have been gearing up that way ever since.
I know some guys put the shin guards on after skates, and some before. Then you have it either over the tongue of the skate, or under. Which is better, what do the pros do? Anyone who plays hockey, just what is better. Thanks
I think it is better to put them after the skates, over the tongues. Both methods are used by the pros, depends on personal preference. Some players find it uncomfortable to have the tongues under the shin guards.
It you want to reduce the chances of being sliced by a skate on your ankle area, you should definitely put the shin protector over your skate tongue. That piece of equipment is made to protect your tibia area and its surroundings.
I remember when Andrei Markov, wearing his skate tongues over his socks got sliced by Price's skates. That left him out of the game for months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBPL3FpFv lo What happened is that the blade probably cut the tongue or went through the unprotected area between the tongue and the shin protector. Wearing it like this leaves an open space that is not safe and protected from eventual injuries.
That's why I recommend that gear over your skates tongues.
Looking for some shin guards/hockey shoes for my sister as a gift for xmas.
She's a regional player, with her England trials coming up next year, so im in need of some good equipment. Any ideas?
Budget is up to £100
Hockey is a very physical sport. Throughout a game, a player can get dozens of body checks left and right from the opposing team. If you are curious about trying out this sport, then it is very important that you have the right gear that will protect you from injuries. Getting the best hockey equipment can optimize your playing skills as well. Here are some tips on what you should look for in hockey equipment.
Skates
Hockey skates are essential to have when playing hockey. They are different from your typical ice skates. Unlike those you use in ice skating, the boots in hockey skates are made of molded plastic. When choosing the best hockey boots, one must look for the ones that use synthetic leather or ballistic nylons for the upper boot. Though molded plastic is enough to ensure protection for the feet, they also lessen one's mobility on the ice.
Stick
The hockey stick is as important as the skates. How could you play hockey without something to hit the puck with? There are three types of hockey sticks to use-- the traditional wooden sticks, the two-piece shafts and blades, and modern one-piece stick.
Among these kinds of hockey sticks, the modern one-piece stick is the best that money can buy. Unlike the traditional wooden stick, the one-piece stick is more durable for they are made from Kevlar (the same material used in bulletproof vests) and carbon fiber (material used in creating the bodies of modern F1 racing cars). Not only that, the one-piece sticks is the lightest among the three and is cheaper than the two-piece blades and shafts. An average two-piece stick could cost you around $100 to $170 while the average one-piece costs $130.
