I have a question about a high sticking rule in hockey. In inline hockey, is there a high sticking penalty during a follow through of a shot? Say an attacking player is skating with a puck and winds up to take a slap shot; in the follow through, he strikes the defending player in the face with a stick. Is there a high sticking penalty or not?
I am not sure about this 100%, but I think in ice hockey, it is a totally legal play and no penalty is assessed. I am specifically interested in inline (roller) hockey though. I have searched everywhere and I can't find it. I couldn't find it in the rule book or the situational manual.
Ugh if its not in there its probably at refs discretion.
Meaning if it deemed a purposeful follow or that a reasonable person would control the followthrough to the face its an unsportsmanlike penalty.

I am unsure about the answers to the following questions. If you could help me out and include a rule reference from the 2007-2009 Official Rule Book for Ice Hockey, that'd be great!
7. Team A advances the puck into its attacking zone. After an on-sides call is made at the blue line, which official takes up position at the blue line?
(a) the official on the opposite side of the ice from the players' bench
(b) the official making the blue line call
(c) the official NOT making the blue line call
60. An attacking player is standing in the opposing goal crease. The puck is NOT in the crease. Play must be stopped:
(a) if the attacking team has possession of the puck and the goalkeeper is in the goal crease
(b) if the attacking team has possession of the puck regardless of the goalkeeper's location
(c) no matter which team has possession of the puck and the goalkeeper is in the goal crease
70. A team reports to the official that a racial slur was directed to one of its players. The official did not hear the racial slur. The official must:
(a) assess a game misconduct penalty to the offending team
(b) check to see if the other officials heard the slur; if not, no penalty
(c) advise both teams of the required penalty if a racial slur is heard later in the game
(I'm pretty sure the answer to 70 is C, but a rule reference to back that decision up would be nice)
82. A minor or major penalty may be assessed to a player who body checks the goalkeeper in the goalkeeper's crease area. True or False?
(I'm leaning towards true on this question, but a rule reference would be very helpful!)
Thanks!
7) B - The official making the call.
When an official makes an off-sides call, the other official always shags the puck while the official making the call spots the face-off. That's from one of the officiating manuals, I forget which one.
60) A - If the attacking team has possession of the puck and the goalkeeper is in the goal crease.
Rule 621(d) - Situation 13, page 271
"With the goalkeeper in his crease, no member of the attacking
team can be in the goal crease if his team has possession of the
puck..."
70) C - Advise both teams of the required penalty if a racial slur is heard later in the game.
Rule 601(f)2 - Situation 15, page 209
82) True - Rule 606(b), page 173 - Charging.
The rule reads "A minor or a major penalty shall be imposed on a player who body checks or charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease or privileged area."

Okay, any other books besides the 'for dummies' series?
No book needed.
I couldn't find the original pdf off the NHL website, but I through a Google search I came across it on the Canucks website.

Happy reading.
I really hate to do this but here it goes: I've decided to write an informative speech about fighting in hockey. I need 4 sources. I thought about using the hockey rule book as one. Does anyone know of good books that I can use that touches upon this topic? Or any other ideas?
BQ* What was the last essay or project you've done for school?
Kayleigh dear, books are not internet. And when you get to Big people school (college) you can't use the internet as cites and source.
Try and stay away from websites and blogs, those aren't usually seen as creditable sources, although some websites are ok.
I found these articles when I did a quick search on Google Scholar:
http://sportpsych.mcgill.ca/pdf/publicat ions/Hockey_Violence_CST_1996.pdf
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bbushman/ bw98.pdf
This Macleans artilce:

Book wise try:
"Between the Lines" by former NHL linesman Ray Scapinello
I never read it but it may be helpful
If you are looking for something on the legal side, try: "Sports and Law in Canada" by John Barnes
Its difficult since I lost my university database privileges since I finished my degree. If you know someone at a college or university they should have access to millions of databases that can help ya out further.

Your View: Hockey player convicted of assault - fair or foul ...
An 18-year-old Leduc teenager who intentionally butt-ended an opponent during a Midget AA hockey game has been convicted of aggravated assault.
Judge Geoff Ho found the teen guilty after ruling his butt-end to the abdomen of Austin Hoekstra involved the "use of a hockey stick as a weapon."
He also concluded the armed attack was "unprovoked" and "not accidental," and the use of "significant" force caused "serious" injury.
Fair or foul?
We harken back to the days of the Broad Street Bullies of Philadelphia when all was fair in love and war ... and especially in hockey.
They were, some would say, the best thing that ever happened to our game. Others would suggest they were the worst thing that ever happened.
