I am a huge fan of the sport. I understand most of it, such as the rules, positions, penalties, etc. But what I am having trouble understanding are the play strategies teams use, such as forecheck, breakout, neutral zone trap, crashing defense, etc. I have seen diagram animation of such plays, but have trouble identifying them in action. Is there a way for me to study or observe them in order to make it easy to tell exactly what the players on the ice are doing to either put the puck in the net and/or keep it out?
When watching it live, don't watch the puck, single out certain players and follow them. If you know what kind of style he plays; scorer, defensive specialist, playmaker, etc. you can pick up on what they might be trying to do. Same thing goes with defense, watch their positioning when the attack is coming towards them. When one player goes into the corner attacking the puck, see what his defense partner does as well as the center. So basically, don't watch the puck

I've played hockey my whole life. I never played lacrosse despite many other hockey players trying it out. I'm wondering if I should stick to just playing hockey or give lacrosse a shot for my Junior year. Also, how hard or easy is lacrosse to pick up if you are a hockey player?
i play girls' lacrosse and i know it's really different from guys, but i don't know if hockey and lacrosse would have much in common. the footwork is the same (dodging, cutting, etc.) but the throwing, catching, cradling, checking motions seem to me like they would be totally different from hockey. you should try it out, though...hockey would give you a good advantage on the lax field.
I dress nicely and wear heels, and im thin and all, but whenever i go to buy hockey gear people ask the size OF THE PERSON IM BUYING IT FOR! Not every girl who plays hockey is manly. or when i tell them theyre always think field hockey. Dude's you can be feminine and STILL play hockey. Why is it sooo hard to believe??
i don't know but when i find out a girl plays hockey and i think thats hot and knowing they play hockey makes them look all the prettier ;-)
I play field hockey and I have no idea what to call my self. It's getting kind of annoying saying I play field hockey, when I could just say I am a _____. Plus I just wanna know. 10 points!!!! and not just FIELD hockey, any type of hockey is okay.
There aren't any other names. I looked all over the web and couldn't find anything. Sorry if this dissappoints you. Hope it helped anyway:)
Hey, I just started playing league hockey stick year, I have no problem with skating and shooting top shelf, but when it comes to games is different, can you tell me what to do to create those chances? I can stick handle very well but the main thing is during games when i faces a d man i stop stick handling and get nervous an looses the touch on the puck causing the lost of control on the puck. Any tips and advices will be appreciated.
you're probably focusing too much on stick handling. try not to dangle so much and just see if you can beat him with speed up the outside lane. you have much more speed than the defender obviously because he's skating backwards. also if he tries to transition to skate forward that takes up time too. i don't know maybe you like to do all the fancy dekes but at least try to beat him with speed a couple of times. another thing to try (since you said you could shelf pretty easily) is have you're body positioned to the left of the players body and stick to his right if you're a righty. if you're a lefty do the opposite. doing this lets you use the goalie's own defender as a screen and go for a snipe over the goalie's shoulder. hope this helped.

Puck Bama: Auburn Hockey plays Frozen Tide in “Iron Cup” Friday ...
Sports’ fiercest rivalry will hit the ice tonight when Auburn’s university recognized (but still unfunded) club hockey team faces off against the University of Alabama’s Frozen Tide in the first ever “Iron Cup”.
The three-game weekend series will be held at the Pelham Civic Complex ; the first match starts at 8 p.m.
Auburn assistant coach Elliott Chenger says winning will be challenge.
“There is no doubt that both teams are going to be going out and looking to play hard and come away with that awesome trophy,” said Chenger, who resurrected Auburn’s hockey team from a 28 year hiatus (Auburn had a hockey team from 1979-82). “Having said that we are definitely the underdogs in this match up.”
