What is the proper (or easiest) way to tie a hockey jersey neck string such as those on the Rangers jerseys?
My team sweaters have the strings. I prefer a little more room in the neck area so I tied each end of the string to the last eyelet with a simple knot. You can really tie it any way you chose, the most common way would be the same way you tie a shoe.

I somehow managed to lose my neck string for my authentic San Jose Sharks third jersey. They couldn't tell me how to get a replacement at the store but they let me measure one and it's like a 20" shoe lace.
Awkward situation. Try going to garage sales and find a pair of baby sneakers and use the shoe lace from the sneaker. Worth a shot. Hope it helps. Good Luck

Hudson Hockey Player Talks About Neck Injury For First Time
The 17-year-old senior captain of the Hudson girls' varsity hockey team met her teammates at the rink for the first time since suffering the devastating injury.
She was cross-checked from behind during a game and fractured three vertebrae in her spine, just below her neck. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Her season is over, but, everything goes well, she hopes to play softball this spring at Hudson High.
