I have been in several, and there is nothing more horrid than the stench of hockey gear.
Oh, Jesus, God...it *is* awful....and riding HOME with a hockey player who hasn't taken the time to shower....ughhh!
The only thing I have EVER smelled that was worse? Burnt human flesh. Unfortunately, I was at a fatal house fire, and the smells of that event are forever etched into my mind and soul.

I don't know what table topping is.
Jason: that is terrible.
Max: that one is funny.
J. Jones: you worry me
hockeyfan: how did the rat die?
My story has more to do with horsing around than a planned prank.....
I remember being at a practice and a bunch of us were near the main door to the locker room. I don't remember if it was before or after, but I do remember there being equipment laying around the bench seat. One of the players was forced outside for reasons that escape me but I know he didn't have a thread of clothing on him. I looked up as the three other guys were holding the door shut.
The coach said "Stop screwing around before somebody gets hurt." And not 5 seconds after he said that, the player without clothes managed to get the door open for a split second only to have it slam shut on his hand. Well, once he yelled out in pain the other guys let him in. He was writhing in pain and walking into the room clutching his injured hand with his eyes closed.
Because he couldn't see, he managed to catch a skate blade between the toes of one of his feet which added to the bloody carnage. I was laughing so hard that as I leaned back so I could breathe, I slid off the bench and banged the back of my head on the lockers. It was so funny that even the injured guy was laughing.
I think he missed a few games while his hand healed and needed a few stitches on his foot. The details are sporadic because it happened back in the late 70's and many kegs of beer have gone down my gullet.
Never played hockey... but heard it really smell bad... is that true? Smells like?
Yup . It does smell in there. Rinks try to keep them clean . But you still get that sweaty gear smell. After you are in there for a bit you get used to it.
As for what it smells like , Hard to say. Damp , salty, musty .

Just curious.
It can be, my batting gloves can stink up a whole dugout.
Their taste is exquisite and their ability to create drama with living space is devine.

Crosby, Lemieux lockers bring in big bucks | Sidney Crosby Hockey
Officially, the person who successfully bid $36,987.66 to win the November auction of the dual Mario Lemieux-Sidney Crosby lockers from Mellon Arena wishes to remain anonymous.
“The winning bidder is very private,” Nancy Angus, the executive director of the Mario Lemieux Foundation, said last week, declining to give a name. The attached lockers were auctioned to benefit the foundation.
But this was not like trying to figure out what really happened to the Air Force’s B-25 that crashed in the Monongahela in 1956, or whether it was a UFO or a Russian satellite that fell to the ground in Kecksburg, Pa., in 1965, or whether Frenchy Fuqua really touched the ball before Franco Harris caught the Immaculate Reception in 1972.
