is there anything i can put on my hockey equipment to disinfect it??? ive heard to put febreeze fabric freshener but does that really work? my mom wont stop complaining bout how its all dirty..
everyone that answered prior to me is an absolute amateur!
Fabreeze will only mask the sent - not disinfect.
If you want to DISINFECT your equipment - you need to use Lysol or any other DISINFECTANT spray.
This, accompanied with airing out, will ELIMINATE bacteria.
if you have sensitive skin - you should wear long leggings and a long sleeve shirt under your equipment. Lysol will not irritate your skin - but nasty bacteria will. you can develop eczema or ring worm from dirty equipment.
This is a video I made for an assignment that had to be a tutorial. I figured everyone should know how to put on the hockey equipment. I squint ...
Where is the best place to buy your hockey equipment and what is the best brand right now?
HockeyMonkey or HockeyGiant are the two places I order my equipment from. The best brand depends on how much you are willing to spend. Bauer is probably the best overall brand. Reebok makes nice helmets though. Easton is pretty good overall too.

I'm interested in playing hockey, and I was wondering if anyone knew a prince range for a full set of hockey equipment - I'd be looking for affordable equipment, of course. I don't need aerodynamic shoelaces or anything fancy like that.
For ice hockey, here's a reasonable breakdown of what you'll need (prices are very much approximate; I've included ranges). You can try ebay or any used stores for some stuff; stuff like elbow pads, shoulder pads...you can get away with lower-end stuff. Spend money on skates (get them fitted if it's practical), and of course...your brain bucket (helmet).
Skates: $150-$400 (above all else...you want something that fits well)
Shinguards: $40-$90
Socks: $10-$15
Pants: $70-$150 (just make sure they're long enough; ideally you have an overlap above the knee between the top of your shinguards and your pants- a puck that hits bare skin...yeah that's gonna leave a mark).
Protective Cup: $10-$40 (you can buy a jock short/or compression short that will have velcro tabs for your socks, it's an all-in-one).
Suspenders (for your pants): $5-$10
Shoulder Pads: $40-$80 (go cheap unless you're playing full check and slapshots are allowed)
Elbow Pads: $40-$80
Gloves: $60-$120+
Helmet: $60-$150 (I'd strongly consider some sort of facial protection unless you have a desire to lose your chiclets, and possibly your eyesight).
Sticks (get 2-3): $30-$200+ each
Bag: $50-$100
Jersey: $10-$150 (practice jerseys are cheap)
Mouthpiece: $10-$15 (personally I'd wear one if I was skating out)
Sticks: Do not buy the composite (one piece sticks). Just get a couple wood/fibreglass sticks.
Helmet: Get one that fits or is at least adjustable.
Happy shopping.
I still have time to shop but I am going to get my son brand new equipment come next season and i was just wondering what every one's personal oppion is on the more durable ice hockey gear is? What brands tend to last longer? Skates, gloves, pants? I am thinking of going with the top of the line skates but are they really any better then a cheeper brand?
Get a few opinions at local Hockey stores. What position does he play? How many games a year will he play? What is his age? What kind of money are you looking to spend? Knowledgable sales people should be able to determine what is best, based upon your and your sons current situation!
Also, ask him (assuming he is already a player), he knows what he likes!
If he is a beginner, just get him reliable equipment and let him learn what he likes as he evolves!

Important Facts to Consider When Buying Hockey Equipment
You must take the time to select proper equipment to ensure your safety when it comes to the great game of hockey. Whether you are the one who has health and safety concerns on the ice or it’s someone you love, there is no substitute for purchasing equipment that is as comfortable as it is effective in providing protective covering. These are all important to keep in mind and carefully consider as you purchase hockey equipment.
Most hockey equipment pieces are specifically designed with your safety in mind. besides just shoulder pads and shin guards you will also need to consider elbow pads for protection of the forearm, triceps and elbows. An injury to your elbow can be very painful not to mention debilitating if you fall on the ice unprotected. Elbow pads can be hard or soft, and they are usually adjustable. Don’t forget about this important type of protective gear.
