I am throwing my husband a NHL Red Wing themed dinner party. I am trying to think of ideas for the table and decor. Sometimes themes can take on a "child like" feel, and I want it to be clearly for a grown man. I thought of using a white tablecloth (because it is white, will be able to use it for more than just this occasion) and putting hockey pucks on the table with tealights as a center piece. I am still thinking though, and am just not sure. Any ideas on how to create a hockey themed dinner party? What kind of decor should be used? Is a hockey cake too juvenile? Or maybe the cake should be more simple?
I thought white tealights were simple...
I would do a red velvet cake with white icing and the red wings logo on it. If serving alcohol, I would do something red and frozen for the ladies and of course beer for the guys. I would use the white tablecloth with red cups, silverware, etc. If you have a penant or something that says Red Wings on it hang it around the room. Definately wear a hockey jersey.

Hey everyone!
So my boyfriend and I will be hitting 3 years this January and his birthday is in december so I need to get on a birthday present.
In the past I have gotten him some home decor stuff he really wanted with Canucks tickets, a digital camera, iPod the usual stuff.
He is turning 24 and in the process of starting his own business so this year Im a little short on funds (as Im a student and loaned him $4000 for the start up leaving me cashless) so I need to think of something sweet and inexpensive. I was thinking of getting a poster made for him with a motivational quote and I could get it framed (hes put together a self help conference so hes big into self improvment etc).
So the 2 questions, do you have any ideas of something different he may like (hes into hockey, music, self improvment stuff, designer clothing, any experience, some video game stuff but he doesnt really play anymore cuz he feels it holds him back from real life.... but he secretly enjoys it, etc.). And, if you think the poster idea is a good one, what picture do you think is best?

Thanks so much!
well...I'm into rc toys, I don't know any man who isn't :)
I like indoor rc helicopters, like the Blade MCX which is a super fun gadget to buzz around the room, and beginner friendly.
not really cheap..but your local hobby shop should carry it or items like it,maybe in range of your money...just focus on having a beginner friendly one.

NHL Media Coverage in the USA Lacking « Hockey World Blog
For those located in the United States, I believe we can all agree the media coverage of the NHL is quite lackluster.
Having visiting our northern brethren Canada many times, it is two different worlds. Just last year I was curling in Ottawa and was in between matches so a friend and I decided to go to the bar for a drink and some grub. After carefully selecting my seat to be for the next hour at the bar, I began looking around. To my right, jerseys and hockey pictures of great players and moments in time as decor. To my left, even more jerseys and hockey pictures of decor. My beer arrived, Labatt Blue, another sign. I ordered a burger, fries, I passed on the gravy, and as we waited for our food we talked it up with the bartender. No, the conversation did not have one mention of the NFL, or even the sissy fouls called in the NBA, instead we spoke about our home NHL teams, the teams worth watching, and of course our playoff predictions round by round in a projected seeding. Heck, the attractive waitress even threw in her two cents. I almost asked her to marry me on the spot but questioned how border patrol would respond to me answering their questions, “Yes Sir, I do have goods that I am bringing back in the U.S., a wife.”
