where do i start, what are the first steps to being a certififed usa hockey coach? i looked on the usa hockey website, but i dont see any info about how to become certified.

The info is clearly on the site. You have to get a CEP card to coach. You have to take certifications to receive the card. Their a prereq's that determine what level you are allowed to coach at. Here is the link with all the info you could need. Think it's great you want to coach!

With the Olympics on the horizon, should USA hockey look in a new direction in terms of a head coach? Peter Laviolette would seem to be a good fit, as would John Tortorella. The bottom line is this: if Ron Wilson is America's only hope for international supremacy, then they are in serious trouble. Who would be a great fit to lead the Americans?
Looking at it from a different angle, I think what team USA should be looking at for a coach is a Don Cherry type of guy.
Maybe if Brett Hull or Jeremy Roenick (sp?) could coach, would generate a lot more interest in US hockey. Right , wrong or indifferent, and usually with little effort given to the thought process (like cme) , they have something to say. will say it loud and often. Due to their character, these 2 would generate more interest than an occasional extra win. In the long run extra interest would generate more players and that would lead to better players.
To start.... between 25,000 & 35,000 a year depending on where you live.
Do you think that it is unfair to cut a boy, saying he's too small/not big enough, yet the coach keeps a smaller player who he's a good friend with the dad for a AAA team in Rochester? Politics shouldn't have anything to do with making a hockey team. It's ridiculous.
Sorry, and I really mean that. Politics and minor hockey are always a big issue. I am a coach and a ref and after 3 games today, the balance between good and big is a real challenge.
I hope your son and you can deal with it. The child will NOT end up playing hockey for a living. Accept the life lesson, encourage him to do well in school and accept that hockey is a recreational activity, not a career.
You can officiate at any age according to USA Hockey. If you start earlier, the sooner you can develop mechanics and skills for better officiating opportunities.

The Carleton University Department of Recreation & Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Shelley Coolidge as the Head Coach of the Carleton University Ravens Women’s Hockey program. Coolidge takes over the cross-town Ravens after spending the past 6 seasons as Head Coach of the University of Ottawa Gee Gees Women’s Program.
The Lashburn, Saskatchewan native led the Gee Gees to four CIS National Championship tournament appearances, in the her 6 years, including the CIS National Championship Title Game, in 2004 against the University of Alberta Pandas. Coolidge, a former Manager of Female Hockey Development program with Hockey Canada, past-President of the CIS Women’s Hockey Coaching Association brings a wealth of coaching experience to Carleton University as Coolidge’s Gee Gee teams constantly improved each year and were contenders for the QSSF Title finishing no lower than second place in the past four years.
