Do hockey players change there pads when there is the intermision between periods??? I was just wondering. I know that some hockey players take everthing off and walk around butt naked. Do they change there sweaters??? I am really curious. I don't have the guts to ask the Thunder hockey boys tonight so I was just wondering if you guys know.
I few change if they sweat a lot and don't like the feeling. But top equipment to change would be gloves, and maybe socks. But socks means taking everything off and is a hassle.
Few change jerseys. In the NHL they probably have a spare, but I don't think it is common. The only time I have seen where in All Star games where all players changed their jersey each period so there were several game worn jerseys that could be autographed and sold.
This is the first in a short series of videos that explains the game of Hockey. In this video, Doug McLeod discusses the basic rules of the game ...
I watch the NHL a lot but want to know a little more about NCAA hockey, just the basics for now.
What are the best programs?
Whats different about the style of play compared to the NHL? Different about the rules?
Best coaches?
Anything you can tell me about it would help.
I hope I can help you out with some of this
The Big Ten hockey teams are very good to watch and have been producing NHL caliber players for many years. Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State Minnesota and Wisconsin all have very good programs. Keep an eye on the Big Ten Network. They will sprinkle in a few games when they are not showing college football or womens softball.
Also, traditionally, Boston College and Boston University has had players produced for the pros.
The University of North Dakota, Notre Dame, and Denver also have great programs.
And I would also be amiss if I didn't mention my Penn State University mens and womens hockey teams. The Mens have won many national championships in the past 10 years in the ACHA. They are always near the top every year coming in 2nd if they don't win the championship.
NCAA hockey also has an equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. The Hobey Baker trophy was named after a WWII hero and Princeton University player to signify that years best or outstanding player.
College hockey also has their form of championship tournament called "The Frozen Four" for both Mens and Womens teams. This year the mens teams will play on Ford Field in Detroit and Minnesota (twin cities) will host the women in 2010.
One of the significant differences between college and the NHL is the fact that face shields and cages are mandatory. I think this prevents fans from recognizing their favorite players, but since the college level is a developmental situation for players at all stages, there can be more potential for accidents up around the face and thus needs more protection.

I remember seeing Tom Poti wearing one during intermission for some "Hockey 101" thing on CSN here in the DC area. I tried Googling it, but whenever you use both "Poti" and "green" in a Google query, you only get results on the Capitals defensive line. So if you have any idea, thanks in advance.
