I'm doing a field hockey summer clinic to get prepared. Can any people who have done field hockey recommend a good summer workout to get in shape? Like running and stuff? I really want to make the team.
For my field hockey tryouts we did a lot of scrimmaging, sprinting, and activities showing how well you are with your ball control/dodges. I recommend working on doing at least 20-30 minutes of running everyday so eventually your mile time is around 7 minutes, 8 minutes at the most. Also make sure to work up you endurance. A good way to do this are fartlek workouts. These model how you'd run in a game. Do a bunch of sprints too. If you search "field hockey workouts" on google, there are some good websites that have pre made calenders. Also doing lunges and stuff to strengthen your legs help because a lot of times in field hockey you are in a squatting position. A good way to practice dribble is to do ladders with a group of people. Have a group of 4 with 2 people on each side about 100 meters away from each other. Dribble halfway with a tight dribble, then the rest with a loose. These help with ball control a lot. Good luck!!

I'm 14 now, freshman next year but I need to know ahead of time (if I need to prepare and get fit) if it's necessary to have experience of playing field hockey before? Would they show me how to hold a stick, etc. on the first tryout day? Should I attend captain's practices?
Sure you should try out! Watch a few games on tv to get a feel for it but hey apparently John Madden from the New Jersey Devils started playing ice hockey when he was 16 or 18 yrs of age. You might be surprised that you have hidden talent, give it a shot! You have nothing to lose!
I tried out for the field hockey team at the begging of freshman year, and didn't make it. It honestly hurt a lot. I love the sport, but since being cut, I haven't played. I want to try out, but I think its going to be way to embarrasing seeing as I know a lot of girls doing it, and it is hard to get on a team after they have been together for a year. Any advice?
you honestly love the sport , and this shouldnt stop yu. dnt b afraid to try out again!!! people will learn to respect you for your determination and your love for the sport. tHE rest will fall into place with time & practice !! YOU CAN DO IT !!!
G00D LUCK !!!
Is it a good idea or just for pros.
do you want to keep your teeth?
i would think you would want to wear one.
You really should wear them.
i know i don't want my teeth ruined from a field hockey ball.
:]
Know any tips for getting in? What would they like to see? What should i do to prepare myself?
PLEASE IM DESPERATE
ok so the toughtness during tryouts really depends on 1. the amount of kids in your school and 2. How many people are actually trying out you need to run A LOT at my school you need to make a 7:30 or under mile to make varsity. i would suggest going to as many camps as possible to prepare your self look up drills you can do either alone or with a friend to make your self more accustomed to your stick if you know anybody woh plays field hockey in your school ask them once again you have to be running A lot start small and work your way up to 1-3 miles a day TRUST me it will be worth it!

Page, Gebhart named field hockey H.S. All-Americans ...
Jordan Page had just finished what she called a "dream season" when she helped the Cocalico field hockey team to its first state finals appearance.
Although the Eagles finished as runners-up in the PIAA Class AAA Tournament, Page turned out to be a winner on a national scale.
She, along with Donegal's Laura Gebhart, were named to the 2010 Harrow Sports/National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School All-America First Team. Penn Manor's Renee Suter was named to the Second Team.
All three seniors, who were named to the Pennsylvania Field hockey Coaches Association All-State First Team in early December, were also listed on the NFHCA All-Mideast Region First Team prior to earning their national honors.
