How to improve my field hockey skills?

I'm starting a camp this summer, and plan on doing field hockey in the fall, but i want to start practicing now to get better because i didn't do it last year. my main question is what are some moves i can practice in my backyard that will improve my field hockey skills so i can somewhat catch up?
BE VERY SPECIFIC!

I don't play field hockey, but like with everything practise and dedication help a lot.
As for some moves you can practise might want to check youtube or similar sites.

How do i improve my field hockey skills?

I have been playing for a few years and i have never been in a good team. I really enjoy hockey and i would love to improve. Any ideas?

My advice to you would to be get in shape if you aren't. Field hockey requires you to run A LOT. For me, practices require for us to run anywhere from 1-3 miles a practice. It'll be very difficult to keep up with the rest of the team if you have difficulty running this much. I play as an offensive , so it requires a bit more running than if you were a defensive player, or the goalie. Even if you are the defensive or the goalie, you still should run as much as you can and workout. Workout whenever you can..even if it's just jump roping in the privacy of your home or doing push-ups and sit-ups whenever you find that you have free time. If you're an offensive player- Practice dribbling and handling your stick in your backyard..or at a local park..ect. Practice shooting at a goal from a far distance and if you don't have your own goal, just set one up with cones, stones, sticks, ect. and practice shooting at that. As an attacker, you should be able to run with the ball, swiftly , yet in a controlled manner. Defense- Again, practice dribbling and try and get another teammate (offense) to practice with you so that you can try and learn new skills to steal the ball from him/her. Goalie-Ask teammates to shoot at you and try to block them all. Do many side shuffles and try to quicken your hand and leg movement so you can save the balls :). Well, that's all...and..remember.. to HAVE FUNNN! <3 :D Field hockey's a fun sport, so have fun with it!

What field hockey skills should I be working on?

i play county level hockey and would like to progress. i am a winger and find that my first touch is fine but would like some tips on how to add variation so that i can get past defenders with it.

thanks

strong strong strong strong fakes when dribbling!

Is it good to use a tennis ball to practice field hockey skills i.e ball control?
