I'm the field hockey goalie at my high school and my gear (shin guards, pads, pants, etc) always smells soooo bad. I wash my gear in the washing machine every once-in-a-while but i can't take it home every day!
I was just looking for a fast and easy solution to smelly gear. Mostly a solution to smelly shin guards.
Thank you so much!!
If you don't want to take your gear home all the time, a good way to keep your stuff from getting stinky at school is to use Febreze, or any other fabric freshening spray. It leaves a nice scent, and kills the germs that cause the smell.
Also, before playing you should put baby powder on the inside of the shin guards. It helps soak up sweat, so the less sweat that gets on your shin pads, the less they're going to smell.
By waiting once in a while to wash your pads, the smell and germs just accumulate and get worse (especially if they're left in a locker). If you wipe them with disinfecting wipes (something like Clorox or Mr. Clean) after every time you finish playing, you kill the germs and most of the stink right away and stop them from lingering in your pads and building up.
You could also spray your locker (with or without the gear in it) with Lysol or Oust. And make sure you air your stuff out before you put it away!! Just leave it on the floor of the locker room or on a bench.

i am in a hockey club and i don't know how to clean and smelling fresh can anyone tell my how to clean my goalkeeper kit
1.) First off, after a game don't leave the gear in your bag. As soon as you get home take that stuff out of the bag and air it out. Let the equipment breathe air(so to speak).....
2.) (you only have to do this step probably every month or I use to do it every other month) Secondly, buy yourself a medium sized floor fan(walmart or target, or whatever is low-cost) and point that fan on your gear till it drys. Never repack your gear, unless its fully dry. You can also spray the anti-microbial or anti-bacterial FABREZE on your gear. This not only cleans it, but it also kills the germs in your gear. Not airing your gear out, and properly cleaning really what makes your gear stink. Even spray, your bag... So, many people forget the most important piece of equipment and thats the smelly bag you carry your gear in...
3.) Also, if you have a bathtub at home and be careful with this next step. Buy, some kind of strong antibacterial washing soap and buy a small scrbber with handle and scrub your gear inside and out. Then let you gear soak inside your tub for about 20 minutes with the soap. Also, be careful of washings soaps, as your skin might be sensitive to certain products. After 20 minutes, WASH THOROUGHLY, make sure all the soap is removed. If the soap is not properly washed off, then during a game your skin might get itchy and you might even get a slight skin burn or rash. SO, wash (cold or warm water, whatever you prefer) completely. Once, washed let air dry again - hang in tub or in your garage. Whatever you think might get the gear quickly air dried faster. P.S. don't forget to wash your tub afterwards....
4.) Buy yourself some of those foot deodorizers or any deodorizers, even baking soda will help. Throw some in your bag... This keeps the smell down, and often keeps the stuff from molding inside your bag.

im practicing for goalie at fh and i got blisters on my loweer legs and i dont know why :[
Hey. I am also a field hockey goalie, and have expierenced the same problems. It is either the straps on the back of the shin gaurds, or the top of the boots rubbing your legs. If I had to guess it's probley the boots.
P.S. Why don't you know how you got them? You know where the equipment rubs! Thats where you get blisters!

I'm thinking about joining field hockey when i start middle school this year. I have a couple quesitons:
1. What gear do I need? (I'm playing offense or defense, not goalie)
2. How do you play?
3. Is it fun?
4. Is it rough?
5. Do you have any tips for me?
Thanks for all your help, and please help me out!! :)
1. stick, colored mouth guard, cleats, shin guards, goggles (usually)
2. basicly like soccer only with a stick. you get the ball upfield into the other teams goal.
3. yes
4. not at middle school level.
5. practice stick handling.
To play on a club team I'm starting, I need my own goalie gear. I was looking at these leg gaurds, and wondering if they were legit. I would like OBO, and these are the top line, but I'm wondering if they aren't as good as others because they are the 2002 model. Help? Also, would I be able to use these with the yahoo kickers? Thanks =]

Yeah, OBO is pretty top of the line, regardless of when it's from. Most brands like that only change their technology every once in a while, it's just the colors that change each year. However, I wouldn't buy it on ebay, because I've had friends who have unintentionally purchased black market field hockey equipment off of it. Goalies are amazing people. Good luck in your hockey.http://www.obo.co.nz/#Home
