Coaching field hockey in the USA?
P3290006.JPG

Hey,

I'm finishing off my degree and I'm looking to move to the USA to coach (and play) field hockey for a while and wondering what is the best method to do this?

Ideally i'll like to stay on the east coast somewhere but tbh not really that fussed as long as i'd be coaching a decent standard

I've got plenty of experience etc being from the UK visa would be jsut a formality i expect but its actually getting in contact with the right people.

any help would be great. cheers.

This site is more hockey on blades. Google might be your best tool, you won't find much on the topic here.

How do field hockey coaches decide where to put each player?
P3290001.JPG

I'm in JV field hockey in high school, and I was wondering why coaches put players in certain positions (ex: players get put in left and right wings if they're fast).
Also, my coach puts me in offense, midfield and defense while everyone else on my team stays in the same place. Is this a bad thing?

no if you can play more than one position you are valuable to a coach.

sometimes the coach feels that you perform better in a certain position depending on your stick skills, your drive, your speed etc.

but also they might move you if you have to over compensate for a weak player. maybe they need your drive to get hits out of the defensive end cause the goalie is not stellar? really just depends on the coach. it all varies

how can i be a field hockey coach?
P3290003.JPG

how can i be a field hockey coach or a softball coach? in the future i'm thinking of coaching high school softball and field hockey. since i cant play those sports because of my femoral anteversion i can always be a coach. i dont know much about how to be a coach do u need to go to school for that or do u just need to know the rules of the game?

okay....so i'm on the softball team for High School. here's my advice.
well in my high school our coaches are teachers...so they help out.
but this other coach on the Varsity team of High School he is not a teacher but he still coaches for the team. but he played baseball in his school years.

and this coach named Coach Kurtz (i hate the shizz out of her) she ACTS like she knows how to play and everyone sees it. so everyone hates her because she tells us what to do and everyone complains about her and our other coaches agree but they wont fire her so idk but you DO NOT wanna be hated by your team. if your hated, you would be talked about and yeahh then things start.

so HONESTLY i would say typically you should know the rules of the game and what to do when you pick up a bat to play the game. and also you should know how to catch a softball. you dont need to be as good as the catcher on the team but you should know how to catch a Fly Ball & a straight ball. like if you dont know how to catch a ball or bat, how can others look at you as a coach to see how to do it? (do you know what i mean?) like yeah thats how I would see it.

but practice on your own time and see what you can accomplish by yourself, if you dont want to do it with others.

tip: when you catch, catch with 2 hands, when you bat, swing all the way through like open up after you take a swing and turn your hips and also you need to know how to run the bases. (you dont need to be an expert but you should know what to do on like 2 outs.)

on 2 outs, you run on ANYTHING...no matter what.

good luck(:

What do you think of guys who play field hockey in school?
P3290009.JPG

My mom's a field hockey coach and my sister plays on her HS team so I've grown up around the sport. I am thinking of trying out for my school in the final year of middle school in the Fall and continuing through HS. But I know it's not common for guys to play.

So what would you think of a guy who played field hockey in school?

i was one of the few white students with green eyes black hair and a very british accent in one of the schools in harlem and it was hard for me and a hard on for some of my fellow students.playing hockey?you must be very brave mate very brave indeed.
