I'm a ball hockey goalie and have been playing for years. I want to make the switch to ice and I was wondering what the best way would be. I have bought all my ice hockey equipment and I am an O.K. skater, nothing crazy. What teams should I join? A rec center? I'm lost, should I go to a hockey camp? I prob can't afford it. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, by the way im 22
The only way you will survive on any - any at all - ice hockey team at the moment is to log as much ice time as possible, even if there isn't even a game going on. Not only is the game faster, but is generally played by more skilled players.
You will absolutely suck (unless you are a phenom) for the first year or so, but that's why they make lower-level leagues. Here in NY, there is a D-league (fourth level, obviously) that most anyone can play on and it is light-hearted so there is no embarrassment.
But, as I said, not even getting private lessons from Martin Brodeur can replicate ice time.

I'm about to start playing field hockey at my school... but I'm extreeeemely new to this, not very athletic, and pretty much lost in all the equipment.
I bought a stick, a ball, shin guards, a mouth guard, and soccer cleats. I'm really not sure how to wear all of these. Are you supposed to wear socks??? How's the mouthguard supposed to fit? And what do you carry your stuff in?
Thanks for being patient to someone who doesn't know anything :)
Yea, we're playing outside on the grass.
what I often do is wear normal socks and put my shin guards over them, then put cleats on. you should boil your mouthguard according to the directions on the package, and I find it helps to carry your stuff in a stick bag: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node =3408911
but if you dont want to do that then just carry your stick and put the rest of your stuff in any kind of bag.
have fun!
