Backyard Hockey Rink

i know how to do it and all, but when is a good time to start it? i live in buffalo, and lately its been mid 30s-mid 40s.

This depends on how elaborate you want to build the rink. If you wish to keep it simple (basic boards, no fence) then
usually beginning of December is a good time to start building the rink when temperatures hover around the freezing point. If you plan on building 3feet boards with a fence on top, then November is better. You should lay down your liner no later that the beginning of December.

You should wait before flooding until you are sure that temperatures are going to remain consistently below the freezing point. Otherwise you will have a nice pond in you back yard.

k i have a basketball court in my backyard and i was wondering how i could make it into a hockey rink... could i just use snow as the boards and stuff or do i have to get wood for the boards. if there is any snow on the court from before should i shovel it off before i put the water on it or should i leave it there? HELLP

First you shovel out all the snow and pack it around the sides for boards. Then you add the water. Add the water only if the forcast calls for a few straight days of good cold temps. to ensure solid ice throughout.

Is it worth it to make a backyard hockeyrink? Can I trust Ice n' Go. Any reccommended servieces?

depends where you live whether its worth it or not . lots of work flooding every night kids will have fun though make sure you put up some kind of lighting never heard of ice n go

You might want to check around your area, if it is required to get permission. Contact your homeowners assocation, and your local county to check. I doubt you would need it for that, but you want to check more about insurance or legal issues. If a puck goes wild and hits something, if a neighbor is playing on your rink and injures him or herself.

i live in arizona and i want a hockey rink in my backyard. first how much would it be to have 6 or 10 ft of artificial ice you can skate on in your backyard.? how would i clean the rink? what do i do if it rains or it is to hot outside? how much would it be if i got walls for it and a net surronding the rink so the puck doesn't fly over? please answer thanks!

I have skated and played hockey since high school and I had a dream like yours -- to build my own rink in Iowa and call it the Zubby after right defensive man Sergei Zubov. I do not have solid data, but to have a year round sheet of ice, you need to enclose it in a building, and, your electric bills are going to be expensive because of the energy required to keep the rink frozen. However, if you want to have an ice rink during the winter in Arizona, you can do it in your back yard with a kit. But it pretty much has to freeze for a week maybe two before you get solid ice outside of a building enclosure. And, I think that may be infrequent in Arizona, much less in Texas. I would just enroll in a league somewhere and get your practice that way. In many large cities, you can go to a rink where you can join a league or go to stick time and practice with friends. I saw an advertisement for an outdoor rink kit in an airline magazine once. Just search Google for ‘Outdoor Ice Rink’. In addition, there is a plastic surface that you can purchase and use with ice skates. There is a practice rink in Dallas that uses the plastic surface for skating skills. This will require a concrete slab, but it will not require a high electric bill.
