Anchorage, Alaska only has one professional sport team, the Anchorage Aces which is a minor league hockey team which is affiliated with the West Coast Hockey League. They currently play at Sullivan Arena that can host around 6,400 guest per game.
My question is, could you see a NHL team in Anchorage, Alaska? Why or why not?
If you say yes, why do you think an NHL team could be beneficial to Anchorage?
If you say no, why do you think an NHL team could not be beneficial to Anchorage?
No, for a couple reasons:
1. Not a big enough fan base. Last time I checked Caribou we really not all that big of fans
2. Corporate Sponsors, Oil companies can only do so much. Again Caribou aren't that big of fans
3. Players. Unless you want washed up garbage not that many high end players would want to sign that far away. Can you imagine a road trip from Alaska to Florida. Way to long. On the other side of it, what team would want to fly all that way
4. The NHL and NHLPA would'nt buy into it. They want large market, where their franchises will make tonnes of money. That is all happening on the eastern seaboard of the US. Winnipeg will be the most north you will see a new team.

You are in a wonderful location, Anchorage, for exploring Alaska. Salmon fishing right downtown Anchorage, on Ships Creek. Drive up to Palmer, 30-40 miles, for a reindeer and musk ox farm.
Hike up Flatop Mountain, it seems like the thing to do on summer weekends. Just drive out the Seward Highway and watch the tidal bore, sometimes surfers ride it like waves. Also stop at Bird Point and watch for Beluga whales.
Drive to Girdwood to the resort, ride the tramway to the top for lunch with a view.
We spent 2 months last year in Anchorage and for nightlife we watched baseball games. The didn't even have to turn the lights on to play. I have a photos of the sun above the trees at 10 PM.
I keep telling my wife, as we watch "Men In Trees" on TV, if I knew there was so much fun in the bars, we would have spent some time in one. All I remember about bars, from local TV, was there was a lot of drug activity. I'm sure there are nice lounges to relax at, that's just not our thing. We will be working at a campground, just out of Anchorage, and we will enjoy our evenings a little more.

Weekend Recap Starts Thinking About the PWR - Western College ...
The second half of the WCHA regular season is always by far the most interesting part of the college hockey season. Yes, even more interesting than the throw-everyone-in-a-Yahtzee-shaker NCAA tournament. This year is no exception with nine of the conference's teams hanging out as teams under consideration in the Pairwise Rankings, most every series has some pretty interesting national implications.
Minnesota traveled to North Dakota for what is always an interesting series. Amid Friday's very surprising result, a Minnesota win, a number of very unsurprising things happened at the end of the second period. You can watch the video of it here .
If Brad Malone's hit doesn't qualify as "violently checking a player into the boards" for a boarding penalty, then I think we have a better understanding how an officiating crew lost complete control 40 minutes into a weekend series. I'd lean closer to a two-minute penalty than a major since Wehrs' flimsiness is part of the problem as well, but to not call anything seems pretty ridiculous. Otherwise, there's not much to the fight.
