In the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Lets say a goalie had these stats would they be drafted and what round.
48 games played 30 wins 18 loses gga 1.96 save percentage 94.09% 9 shutouts
age 17
yes this is a made up player. I was just wondering if someone from junior a did have these stats what round would they go
Stats don't really matter to scouts. Stats (especially goalies) are really affected by the quality of the team and opposition. Scouts look for his skills and how likely he is to succeed at the NHL level.
The only way this guy gets drafted is if his WHL team already has two great goalies and that is why he didn't play WHL.
It would be really hard to get drafted straight out of Junior A.
I have a natural talent for music. The first day I got my flute, I never seen someone play it before, but I put it up to my mouth and played "hot cross buns" flawlessly without reading any music what-so ever. Also my music teacher says I have beautiful sound an can play difficult pieces with little-no practice outside of band practice. I also played at the Northern Alberta Junior Honour Band (had 2 days to Learn 5 songs at a grade 5 level) with 80 ppl I have never met before. The. Preformed it in the windspear centre and preformed with the New Edmonton Wind Symponia. I also play piccolo, sax, a little bit of electric guitar, and piano
Then with sports, I am natual at it too. Almost every sport I pick up, I become flawless and have near perfect form. Hockey I became captain and center on my 2nd year playing with an all guys team. My coach said I can be the next Haley Whickenheiser, easily.
Got multiple awards for hockey, badminton, volleyball, and track.
Volleyball, best/strongest server on the team since my very first year. I got to play starting line-up my first year. Very good at blocking/tipping and spiking.
Track & field, best of all, got first in javelin and discus at divisionals, the. 2nd in discus and missed javelin at zones. Then tried out for the Alberta Summer Games, got 1st in discus and 2nd in javelin...then at the Alberta Summer Games (first step towards olympics, no-joke. I was competing and meeting future Olympic athletes, had a silver medalist for the winter olympics speak and she started there. And she said in the crowd of 3,500 athelets that future Olympians are there) and I got 4th In discus and 6th in javelin out of 16. Also I'm from a small town and never had training before. Barely even practiced.
Snowboarding- my fav, have natural talent atthat too, friend seen me and said I need to live by a mountain cause I could make it to the olympics
Also I am an honor student and have a natural ability for art (painting and drawing) I'm called an artist.
Sports, music, pretty much all the activities you describe yourself as being good at, are typical referred to as left brain activities. Right brained is used to describe people who are very good with facts and concepts, usually your science geeks, math whizzes, stuff like that.
The idea of being left or right brained is somewhat controversial among scientists, since every normal person really uses both sides of their brain to function.
UNB vs Michigan or Alberta vs. Boston College. You never hear of NCAA vs CIS exhibition games......do they exist and just don't get much press?
Is the talent level close? I know the NCAA schools are so much larger and they get some good talented kids on scholarships, they have alot of NHL draft picks going through to have great careers and only a handful of kids from the CIS have gone on to the NHL........the CIS seems to be mostly comprised of a lot of kids who played junior and didn't get drafted. So, if they play exhibition, does the NCAA kill them? If they don't then would they? I guess the answer is pretty obvious but just wondering if anyone has any results of these games (if they exist).
Very interesting Ktre-thanx for the article.....kind of ironic timing. Yeah, as I said, alot of the players in CIS have played major junior.....it is interesting that they are going to try to get in on it but appears there are some hurdles, including that major junior thing..lol.thx again.
So I guess you can transfer from the NCAA to major junior but not vice versa, actually that rings a bell now that you mention it.
WIngs fan- What are the dates in October (maybe I am blind) because I don't see any CIS exhibitions.
Tom-It would appear judging from LITY's numbers that your analysis may be a bit off. I kind of suspected that to be the case.
LITY- Thanks for confirming. I was a little more aware of the CHA results but I never hear mention of the CIAU results but I figured it wouldn't be close.
hey can I just say I got an email about a month ago regarding CIS teams applying to be part of the NCAA! I was shocked.....I will find the email and copy on here.
here it is:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The NCAA has voted to allow Canadian universities to apply for membership, paving the way for the likes of the University of British Columbia. The vote was 97 percent in favor, including two abstentions.
UBC has previously expressed interest in playing in the NCAA, including men's ice hockey.
The decision, however, allows for UBC and the like to play in Division II. While there is a provision to allow one men's and one women's program per school to "play up" to Division I, there is currently a moratorium in place preventing such a move.
Schools must apply for membership by June 1st.
Canadian schools would obviously have to change their recruiting practices. Currently, a large portion of Canadian college hockey players are older, having previously played major junior. Those players would be ineligible in the NCAA.
Even if accepted into the NCAA, and even if able to "play up" to Division I, UBC would still face the hurdle of needing to be accepted into a conference.
Among other Canadian schools that have expressed interest in the NCAA are Simon Fraser University, the University of Alberta and St Claire's College in Ontario.
****Póg mo thóin- Hey I was checking back on this post and saw your answer to this one......had NO idea what you were talking about and then found this post about me........I wouldn't be in the hockey section if I didn't know anything about hockey? hahaha
So how are the Chicago Blackhawks looking for the 2010-2011 season?
Here are some of the drafts
The Blackhawks drafted 9 players on Day 2 of the draft (rounds 2-7) and made one trade -- trading the 43rd pick to Toronto for Jimmy Hayes, the older brother of Kevin Hayes, whom the Hawks selected Friday as the 24th overall selection. Jimmy Hayes, who was the Leafs' second-round pick (60th overall) in 2008, had 13 goals and 22 assists last season with Boston College.
Here are the other newest Blackhawks:
Left winger Ludvig Rensfeldt, 18, ranked fourth in the Swedish SuperElit League with 50 points (21G,29A) in 39 regular-season contests with Brynas Jr. during the 2009-10 campaign. A native of Gavle, he paced Sweden with six goals and ranked fourth in the tournament with 12 points in helping his nation to a silver medal at the 2010 World U-18 Championships.
Defenseman Justin Holl, 18, captained Minnetonka High School to Minnesota's Section 6AA Championship in his senior season in 2009-10. The blueliner tallied 37 points (20G,17A) in 25 games and was a finalist for the Mr. Hockey award, given to the outstanding senior boys high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota. Following the season Holl joined the Omaha Lancers of the USHL where he recorded four assists and a +7 plus/minus rating in 11 contests. A native of Edina, Minnesota, Holl is committed to play his college hockey for the University of Minnesota.
Goaltender Kent Simpson, 18, posted a 22-9-1 record in 34 games between the pipes for the Everett Silvertips, where he was a teammate of 2009 Blackhawks fourth round selection Byron Froese. The netminder ranked second in the Western Hockey League with a 2.25 GAA and second with a .925 save %. The Edmonton, Alberta, was a member of Team Canada at the 2010 World U-18 Championships, as well as Team Pacific at the 2008 World U-17 Challenge.
Defenseman Stephen Johns, 18, posted three goals and 16 assists in 62 games during the 2009-10 season for the United States National Team Development Program's U-18 squad. The defenseman also recorded three assists and a +2 plus/minus rating en route to a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 World U-18 Championships. A native of Wampum, Pennsylvania, Johns will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall.
Center Joakim Nordstrom, 18, recorded six goals, nine assists, and 53 penalty minutes in 28 regular-season contests with Aik Jr. in the Swedish J20 SuperElit league. The Stockholm native earned a bronze medal at the 2009 U-18 Ivan Hlinka Tournament playing for his country.
Center Rob Flick, 19, posted career-highs in goals (15), assists (19), and points (34), and penalty minutes (157) in 65 regular-season contests with the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. He tallied an additional four points (2G,2A) in the club's run to the Ontario Hockey League semi-finals.
Center Mirko Hoefflin, 18, spent the majority of the 2009-10 season with Mannheim in the German Junior League. The Freiburg, Germany, native registered 32 goals and 35 assists in just 24 regular-season contests before collecting three assists in 18 games with Heilbronner Falken of the German second division.
Defenseman Nick Mattson, 19, recorded a career-high five goals and a career-best 19 points in 51 regular-season contests in 2009-10 and represented the Indiana Ice in the USHL All-Star Game. Prior to joining Indiana he spent two seasons in the United States National Team Development Program. A native of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Mattson will attend the University of North Dakota in the fall.
Goaltender Macmillan Carruth, 18, posted a 14-9-1 record with one shutout and a 3.41 GAA in 26 regular-season games with the Portland Winterhawks, before compiling a 5-4 mark in 11 WHL postseason contests. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, the netminder has spent the past two seasons with Portland.
I think they drafted some good players, but their not going to be able to play in the NHL right away, until what... 2 or 3 years? and that's if their ready. So we're not going to be playing them this coming season... they still need to develop, work on a few things. We'll really have to see exactly what Bowman does when it comes to trades and resigning players and who he brings up from Rockford to give them a chance to prove themselves... so as of right now we're ok, but what matters are the next steps Bowman has to make.
