1980 USA hockey team gold medal or Michael Phelps winning 8 straight gold: Which of these 2 do you care about?
The Boy Next Door

Or batter question: which of these 2 do you think really matters to the United Staies the most?

They're both very significant olympic events, but different. 1980 was a huge upset, Phelps is simply the greatest swimmer ever, he's been expected to do something like this for a while.

Where were the pros for the 1980 olympic USA hockey team?

I keep on hearing it was all college hockey players but why werent there any pros?

It is not true that it was all college players on the 1980 team. Team captain Mike Eruzione had played two seasons in the IHL, a now defunct minor league, when he was selected for the US team. For the purposes of the Olympics at that time, only players who had never played in the NHL or WHA were eligible.

Explain in detail as if you were on the bench during the 1980 Olympics when the USA hockey team beat Russia?

Pretend you were the assistant coach or even a player on the bench watching USA defeat Russia. Explain how you felt and your reactions.

How about as a scout at the game?

I was there to watch Jack O'Callaghan and while he didn't have a great game (or tournament for that matter) it was euphoric to watch a bunch of guys (who two weeks earlier lost 10-3 at MSG) control the game for the most part.

Did you know that the Winter Olympics have been held in the US 4x. Did you know that in the 4 tournamenst, the US has never finished worse than 2nd?

1932 Silver at Lake Placid
1960 Gold at Squaw Valley (beating the World Champion Russians on the way)
1980 Gold at Lake Placid (the Miracle on Ice)
2002 Silver at Salt Lake City

One other fact about the 1980 US Olympic Team, of all the 'amateur' teams that contested the Olympic Hockey Tournament prior to 1992........that US team sent more players to the NHL than any other team from any other country in any other year!

It is quite possibly the best non-Soviet Olympic Hockey Team in history

I have the 1980 USA olympic hockey team roster, but can anyone tell me what lines each player was in?

You could always google it.

Fun fact: Bob (or Robert, not sure what he was called when he played) Baker is now an oral surgeon, and he took my wisdom teeth out. Too bad I couldn't ask him about the experience!

  • Herb Brooks: Great Moments

Herb Brooks was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and started playing basketball and hockey in junior high school. When he played for the University of Minnesota, he was almost selected for the 1960 USA Olympic hockey team. Just one week before the Winter Games were set to begin, he was cut from the team. Herb Brooks didn’t let this disappointment get him down. He focused on improving his skills and set a new record for the game by playing for 8 United States National and Olympic teams between 1960 and 1970. After he retired from playing, he started coaching at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota, where he led the team to 3 NCAA championships. Brooks then moved to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota where he built the team up to Division I and finished his college coaching career at St. Cloud with 175 wins.
