can i use a street hockey helmet for ice hockey?

hi, i bought a goalie street hockey helmet thinking it was for ice hockey, so im jsut wondering if i could use it for ice hockey or if i need to reture it and buy an ice hockey 1? plz and thank you

Early in my hockey career I tried a street hockey mask for ice hockey (stupid, stupid, stupid me), and the mask cut my forehead on a shot (probably woulda been better off without a mask at that point (that was in the late 1960s).

Took stitches and left a nice scar, not to mention the mental damage that I gained from that hit.

Truly, your head and brain are irreplaceable, and a mask is nothing to go cheap on.

If you buy a mask that is HECC and/or CSA approved, you should be in good shape, but as you get older and the shots become harder, a fiberglass, kevlar, carbon fiber type mask will be necessary.

If price is a concern, you can always go to a helmet/cage combination.

I say, sell the street hockey mask on eBay (if you're not going to use it for street hockey), and price compare goalie masks and other gear at:

It's a good time to buy, as a lot of stores are going thru sales now.

Street Hockey Goalie Equipments

I was wondering, what are some basic or advanced equipments a ball hockey goalie should need? Inline and Street. So far I have/use are:
-Goal Pads
-Goal Helmet (Has a throat guard)
-Catcher/Glove/Trapper (different names of the glove)
-Blocker
-Chest Protector
-Cup
-Volleyball Knee Pads (sometimes my knee hits the ground instead of being cushioned in the pad, a solution to always having my knee in the pad would be nice also :D)
-Elbow Pads (I hate landing on my elbows sometimes, or even having my elbows rub the ground cause it hurts sometimes)
-Hockey Practice Jersey

What else would I need that won't affect my game play, but not cost a whole bag of cash to purchase? Is having this on good enough?
And a goalie stick x.x forgot to add that.
Black Ice Gothic 32" Goalie Pads
I'm not rich :/ I'm only 16 lol. I can't afford no awesome ice hockey goalie chest protectors x.x, plus no one slapshots hard enough to inflict enough pain to force me to go into T.O or out of the game. As stupid as it is to be barely protected, and absorb pain lol. But money is an issue :/

you might want skates. ive found that not using skates makes it harder to drop.

painting a hockey mask for an art project?

I don't play hockey but I love it and I also like art. I wanted to paint a goalie mask for an art project, but, i don't know which goalie helmet to use. I don't want to spend to much money on it though.

It doesn't matter if it's for street hockey or ice cause no one will be using it for protecting their head.

I was wondering if you guys could list some helmets that are good for this project.

I did not know there were different kinds, but this is a painting section. Maybe you could find more answers in the sports section. If it doesn't make a difference what kind of a helmet I would check out garage sales or creglist, even put an ad there. Get a used helmet, you will repaint it anyway. Maybe someone would donate one.

Baseball catcher helmet for goalie?

I realise the bars on a (traditional not hockey style) baseball catcher helmet are similar to a cats eye cage on a goalie helmet and leave parts of the face exposed (technically a stick could get in there but I don't believe a street hockey ball could) but do you think it would be safe to use one in ball hockey for a goalie? My ice hockey helmet gets hot when I use it for road hockey when it's over 100F / 40C .. your thoughts, preferably based on personal experience?
Gonna take both my goalie and catcher helmet (a Cooper by the way) next time I am in net. Although there isn't as much protection, at least it's better ventilated.

If a street hockey ball were shot hard enough it could compress enough when hitting the mask to penetrate the bars, thus possibly causing facial injury.
If the shots aren't that hard there is no problem using the mask, except that it is unduly heavy and not made for moving about a lot.

Wellwood's a bright guy, and I'm convinced that he picked the number 42 in honour of HHG2TG!
