Hockey helmet cage or a shield whats easier?

I am going to be starting to play hockey on ice for the first time and I'm looking for a helmet to buy. Would you recommand a cage on a helmet or a clear shield type mask on the helmet, the problem with that is that it can get fogy I believe, but if some of you had any experience and some input I would love to hear it, thanks

I use a cage. I has much better protection. It doesn't fog up. It is cooler .After a while you don't even notice the bars on it while you are playing. It also won't get scratched as easily as a shield would from a puck or a stick . So they tend to last longer as well.

What is the most swag hockey helmet and cage combo?

I am debating getting a 4500 with a white cage or just sticking with my 5500 and getting a chrome cage. I don"t know
Swag is swagger and i want to get this helmet because it looks cool. I am also one of the better players on the ice and biggest so safety is more minor. Im just asking from a looks perspective.
It would probably be ccm/jofa or itech

'Swag'? Not really sure what you mean by that, but I prefer the 5500 helmet. You get no-tool adjustment and memory foam adding comfort and protection. The two fit a little bit differently, so I would try them on before choosing.

I am not a fan of the white cage, but I really like the chrome look.

I would go with the 5500 and chrome cage.

Can you use a roller hockey helmet for ice hockey if you get a different cage?

I was just wondering if you could use a roller hockey helmet for ice hockey if your cage is upgraded....im not sure and confused....and if you have one that I can buy for cheap it would be helpfull. I am just starting out as a goal tender and I dont want to spend a ton in case im not good or dont like it....well hope you can help.....

Directly from the USA Hockey In-line rule book.

It is mandatory for all goalkeepers to wear a helmet designed for hockey with the helmet strap properly fastened and full face mask designed for hockey with a chin cup. It is mandatory that all goalkeepers participating in the High School age group division and below, and for goalkeepers under the age of 18 playing in the Adult age division, to wear an H.E.C.C. approved helmet with the helmet strap properly fastened and an H.E.C.C approved full face mask.

sorry for being so anal about the rule but I am an in-line hockey ref, and from personal experience, I have seen to many kids and adults get hurt because of improper equipment....besides if you going to be a goalie, you better have the best equipment . Those pucks hurt!

ice hockey: helmet/cage vs mask?

I play in goal in ice hockey and have always used a helmet/cage combo. I've tried using a mask a couple of times and didn't really like it.

I was wondering what the main difference are between the two (other than the obvious). Is one safer than the other etc.
Every time I've played someone has told me I'm crazy for going in net with only a helmet/cage.
I wear a neck guard (one of the ones that wraps around your neck) so should be fine on that front

Yea its kinda dangerous. Lets say you flip to make a save and the puck hits you right in the neck. Otherwise i think theirs basically no difference just opinion!

Where can i get a strap for an HM30 hockey helmet or the cage with strap on it? Any recommended websites?

I already have the hm30 cage, but I am looking for the hm30 strap to go with it.

you can always try ebay or even a local sports store.

  • Ice Hockey Helmet - Cages | Ice Hockey Helmet

Ice hockey helmet cages are used by the majority of players that play hockey today.

In ice hockey, having the proper face mask is essential to ensure your protection, while still allowing you to maintain proper vision of the puck. The most common type of face protection seen is the ice hockey helmet cage. The cage is attached to the front of the helmet and has a metal mesh shape that allows players to see between the bars fairly easily. In addition, the ice hockey helmet cage allows more air to pass through to the players face which can often help the players ability to breath in fresh air while playing.

Ice hockey helmets cages are specifically designed to make sure that the player is safe when using them. The bars are set apart in specific intervals so that player should not be able to be hit in the face by a flying puck or swinging stick. For a lot of leagues, the type of helmet that a player has to wear is regulated and must be approved. This helps weed out ice hockey helmet cages that are inappropriately made and may not be safe for use on the ice hockey arena.
