I was thinking of starting to play. Outdoor womens hockey. Any tips?? What are the general rules, what equipment do i need etc
well some tips would be practice a lot you can't get better by not practicing then when your good try to watch some hockey on t.v like actual hockey games then learn moves from them and try to understand the sports as well as possible read some instruction books that teach you to do drills so you can advanced to be a good hockey player this is what i did with my son when he was little now like teenaged but yea try to go to your public library and take out some books on hockey. One book i would to all starters is http://www.booklounge.ca/catalog/display .pperl?isbn=9780771070167&ref=widget &attr=9780771070167
This book Helped Russia to become second to Canada in how good the countries plays in the olympics. Once you understand the rules and become a good player you can play shinny with NHL Rules. My friends Refs in shinny sometimes for my son hockey games he usually like to play with the NHL rules that are in todays game. For equipment the simple part namning the equipment you need like a hockey stick shin elbow and elbow guards athletic cup just basic stuff but then it comes to the cost which is difficult for some people these can finance there kids for the equipment. But just go to http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/men u?menuId=4 for equipment.

i am a really good skater and stick handler and i just got my new hockey equipment and when i play in it i really suck.Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Change is the problem!!! You will adjust. Either you are new to the ice, new to gear or just new to the "total" game. Work hard, keep at it. Hey when in Rome.........You'll find it.
Price: $24.99
26" x 18" shiny, slick plastic mat that resembles "ice"
1 referee, 2 goals, 1" puck
10" x 6" x 5" stackable container with attached lid and handle
So just how long would it take for a hockey player(amateur or proffesional players) to adjust to speed skating(short track or long track)? And vice versa.(speed skating to hockey)
*Both hockey players and speed skaters use the same muscles for powerskating.
*Speed skates have more blade on ice for efficiency while hockey skates tend to have shorter blades for maneuver.
I'd hypothesize that it would depend on how much they skate. Just the blade size transition would be hard since the length of blade on a speed skate is much longer than a hockey skate. The blades are much more thin too. Also speed skates are more like a track shoe, whereas hockey skates provide much more ankle support. I'd assume less constriction for the ankle allows more range of motion, making pushing easier. Only from my experience with different figure blades, I think it would just be a matter of adjusting to the skates, which sometimes does not take long. Experience with each sport will most likely help each other.
I don't play hockey or take lessons. I have a pair of hockey skates and I know how to skate backwards but how do you do it fast? I see hockey players skate backwards soooooo fast. When some people(mostly hockey players) skate they start like they are jumping side to side it's hard to explain. HOw do you do that also? Any other tips?

I am writing a story and my characters (a teenage boy who is 17 and a teenage girl who is 17) both play high school ice hockey. The story is set in Minnesota at a high school where the main sport is ice hockey. I need to know when it starts and how long it goes for and when it ends. I really don't know a lot about ice hockey and so any other information will be good. I've played field hockey and so know how to play and the positions if they are the same. Thanks.
Well, I'm from the Western Canada. Practices have started, and games start in early January.

WHL: Outdoor hockey, more outdoor hockey & some blockbuster trades ...
The WHL will make history tomorrow when it stages the league's first-ever outdoor game and some are already calling the matchup between the Kootenay Ice and Spokane Chiefs a "Canada versus the US" event. And just like the NHL's Winter Classic match between the Capitals and Penguins, Mother Nature may play some tricks on The RockStar Outdoor Hockey Classic in Spokane. No matter. The fans I've spoken with are ready for whatever conditions arise with the sun tomorrow and both teams are eager and excited to help inaugurate what could become a yearly tradition. As of this writing, the temperature in Spokane is a balmy 49 degrees. Tomorrow's forecast includes temps in the high 40's - low 50's and... rain. Similar conditions in Pittsburgh pushed the Winter Classic to 8pm Eastern, to take advantage of cooling temperatures, and even though it still rained, no one seemed to pay any attention. The WHL laid out a list of contingency plans, none of which include pushing the game back to a later puck drop, but focus on what should happen if weather conditions deteriorate after the game has begun. You can check out the contingency plans by reading this post at the website for KREM-TV in Spokane.
